Description

A little slice of magic accessible only by water, Allom Bay Cabin. This Great Barrier Island accommodation is perfectly set up for a couple who want an off the grid back-to-nature feel in one of the most remote locations you can find. The space Most guests arrive on Great Barrier Island by plane or ferry then hire a car. Your host, Fraser, will pick you up by boat from Okupu beach or Okupu wharf and deliver you to your lodgings. He resides elsewhere on the property so you have privacy, freedom and peace. The cabin is perfect for a solo traveller or couple who want to unplug from city life and enjoy a tranquil environment. Set meters away from the high tide mark, the cabin offers the home comforts of a hot shower, gas oven, solar powered lights and a flushable toilet. It's the perfect opportunity to let your mobile phones run out of battery and escape from it all (but don't worry, we can charge your device up at the main house any time you require). For those of you who wish to explore the rest of the beautiful Great Barrier Island, trips by boat to the main road can be made by walking a 3.5km or 40 minute long coastal walking track. Please see the map in our photos to see the closest car park at Okupu Beach. We’re also happy to assist with a crossing by boat to your rental vehicle if we’re available and provided that the weather is good. Allom Bay cabin was recently featured in Sam Stuchbury and Hilary Ngan Kee’s enchanting new book "Hideaways". You can search this term to learn more. Guest access The property is only accessible by sea but if you wish to arrive by boat or by kayak we'll be happy to assist you with directions and mooring advice. We will assist you by picking you up from the boat or plane and taking you to the cabin, and also dropping you off at the end of your stay. There is a 3.5km or 40 minute long coastal track to Okupu Beach where you can park your car, should you wish to leave Allom Bay to explore the rest of the island. Kayaks and paddle boards are available for guests to use. If you're new to the equipment we're more than happy to give you a demo! We're happy to lend you some fishing equipment too. Other things to note If you are bringing dogs, please notify us in advance as we have many native birds that call the area home too, as well as a flock of sheep which spook easily. We are happy to have dogs on the premises as long as they are on a lead if they have not been through bird aversion training. No cats allowed on premises. There is no electricity at the cabin other than lights. You're welcome to charge your phone/other devices at the main house elsewhere on the property. There is full cellphone reception, should you need to contact anybody. Unfortunately, we're not able to accommodate groups larger than 2 persons.
