Description

Looking for a beautiful, secluded place to stay while visiting the Daintree? Amethystine Cottage is a brand-new off-grid eco retreat nestled in the heart of the rainforest. It's conveniently located to explore the area or you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful outlook from the deck and listen to the sounds of the rainforest. The space Amethystine Cottage is a quaint, self-contained, 1 bedroom private eco retreat centrally located in the magical Daintree rainforest at Cow Bay. Only two hours north of Cairns yet can feel like a world away. The cottage is ideal for a couple or a small family - the sofa in the living area folds down to make a single bed. Come stay while you explore the ancient rainforest, pristine beaches and the Great Barrier Reef. We are centrally located and walking distance to Floravilla IceCream. Just a 15 min drive from the Daintree ferry, 5 min to Cow Bay Beach or Coopers Creek, 15 min from Thorntons Beach, 20 min to Cape Tribulation. Amethystine Cottage runs entirely on solar power with a rainwater tank. As you walk up to the entrance you step onto the covered breeze way which separates the living spaces from the bathroom, toilet and laundry. The entire house can open up, or you can close off areas as you like. Ceiling fans are throughout the cottage and the bedroom also has fly-screened windows. All living spaces have separate access to the breezeway to access the bathroom/toilet. The breezeway is an undercover external hall that runs along the length of the living spaces, separating them from the bathroom, toilet and laundry. The fully-equipped kitchen is set up for you to cook up a storm. Gas stove and cooktop, stove top kettle, pots, saucepans, frypans, wok, baking trays, mocha coffee pot, cutting board and utensils. There is a small compost bin on the bench and a large one across the drive from the kitchen door and a recycling (bottles, glass, tin, aluminium, pet plastic) and garbage bin can be found in the laundry. There's a DVD player, small selection of movies and bluetooth sound system but no TV or internet wifi, so you can really get away from it all. Optus 4g mobile coverage reaches the property enough to stream movies if you so desire and your data allows it. You may get some 3g telstra to receive a text message. The best spot to do this is in the driveway (you may need to stand on one leg with arms outstretched!). The bathroom has a rainwater shower to die for! There is a pristine creek with a secluded swimming hole on the property. You can explore down to the gorgeous creek and swimming hole. To get there follow the formed path through the undergrowth, you may need to brave some rocks and a little mud. It is a Rainforest, there are an amazing diversity of wildlife. This includes bugs. Some mosquito coils are provided to use at the cottage but it is best to bring your own insect repellant to take on adventures. When walking in the rainforest stay on the paths and wear shoes. You will probably meet Henry and Henrietta, a pair of orange footed scrub fowl who have their nest on the property. You will hear Henry letting you know all is well during the night along with the crickets, frogs and others. Cow Bay (Kaba Kada) is a small village of approx 250 people scattered amongst the trees between the Beach and the hills. Please be mindful of neighbours that you can't see! To stay you must follow the house rules, by booking it you agree. HOUSE RULES 1. No hairdryers or hair straighteners. It's a rainforest. It won't work on our solar system. 2. Do not use the grill on the oven. Unfortunately it's electric and it will not work on our solar system. 3. Please use the compost bin and recycling bin. The compost bin loves food scraps and the earth will love you for it. It saves on so much landfill! 4. Be mindful of the power and water you use and the footprints you make. 5. Do not harm any of the rainforest critters (mosquitoes excluded) 6. Leave the cottage tidy 7. Relax and enjoy yourself :) It is recommended you buy your supplies in Mossman beforehand although there is a general store at the service station up the road in case you forgot something. Mossman Markets are every Saturday morning till noon and have a great selection of locally grown fresh fruit and veggies, there is also a large supermarket, chemists etc. Guest access You have fully access to the whole cottage and down to the creek. There is a caretakers cottage and garage which shares the driveway and is private/no access - please observe the signage. Other things to note Swimming is at guests own risk! We recommend staying to formed pathways and wearing shoes. The ground around the swimming hole can be slippery.
