A 3 bedroom house next to Loch Gilp & Loch Fyne. An ideal base to explore the West Coast of Scotland, Argyll and beyond to the Inner Hebrides islands of Islay, Mull & Jura. We’ve got everything you'll need for a comfortable stay and a fully equipped kitchen. Bedroom 1 is a triple room with a double & a single bed. Bedroom 2 has a king size bed & partial views of the Loch. Bedroom 3 has a single bed. The lounge has a sofa bed too. There's a shower room downstairs & a bathroom upstairs. The space You’ll have access to the area directly to the front and the side of the house. There’s a bench, with a table, to sit at and relax. There are restricted views of the Loch from Bedroom 2. Other things to note Private driveway that fits around 4 cars. License number: AR01855F Various phone numbers and website links are in the book in the house. I can't add them onto AirBnB's site. FOOD Places to eat & drink – in the Summer, it’s a good idea to book ahead! Ardrishaig (2-min drive / 10-15-min flat walk along the front) • Lucy’s at the Steamer Terminal – only a 10-minute walk, it’s just after the bridge. Open Thu – Sun. Highly recommended 😊 • The Rumblin Tum – Daytime café with delicious food. • The Lorne Bar - next to the Rumblin Tum. Raul will give you a warm welcome. It’s open in the evenings Wednesday to Sunday. • The Grey Gull Hotel– check out their social media pages for all the latest menus and theme nights. Open all day and into the evening. Lochgilphead (5-min drive/30-min flat walk along the front/or the canal) • The Green Cup Café – a charming little café in the front square • Eat a Lot – open long hours – buffet style food • The Smiddy Bistro – in the lane behind Danny’s Ironmonger Further away • The Tayvallich Inn – 25-mins away. A beautiful drive. It’s a personal favourite! • The Loch Melford Hotel – 30-mins away, towards Oban (see Things to do – Gardens) • The Kilmartin Hotel – 14-mins away, towards Oban • The Glenbar Store – delicious lunches in their Café or in the greenhouse. It’s 50-mins away and it’s signposted off the main road towards Campbeltown. Enjoy the stunning views from the road. • Café Ca’doro – a great café, which is 15-mins away, in the fishing village of Tarbert. • The George Hotel - great food in the hotel or in the beer garden. It’s about 40-mins away at Inverary. • Loch Fyne Oyster Bar – great seafood about 45-mins away, just after Inverary. • In Oban you have: o Eeusk (which has a pizzeria & a seafood restaurant next door). o Cuan Mor which has more of a pub atmosphere. o Coast which specialised in fish, meats, and game. Takeaways in Lochgilphead • The Argyll Café fish and chip shop – Order online for pick up or sit in. Adriano and his family will look after you well. • The Taj Mahal Indian takeaway – Great food! Call to order or just turn up. Mafus has a small number of tables to dine in too. Please call if you’d like to book. • Lee Garden Chinese – Good takeaway. Call to order. Food shopping • Morrisons Daily – Ardrishaig & Lochgilphead • The Keystore - Ardrishaig • Co-op supermarket – Lochgilphead (Farmers market 2nd Sunday of the month) • Tesco Express - at the petrol station in Lochgilphead • Fergusons Butcher – Lochgilphead • Marmalade Deli – Lochgilphead • Murray Smoked Products (Fishmonger) - Lochgilphead THINGS TO DO We’ve left some guides in the house and there are some leaflets of local things to do too. We have loads of lovely beaches and places to visit, particularly in Oban, Campbeltown and Inverary. Beaches • Ardrishaig beach – a stony beach that’s just across the road from the house. It’s on the edge of Loch Gilp and looks out onto Loch Fyne too. If you look to your right, you’ll see the island of Arran in the distance. Loch Gilp is a sea loch and it’s perfect for paddle boarding and kayaking. Just watch the weather forecast before you head out. • Kilmory beach – a sandy beach that’s about 45 mins. away. It’s a windy road, but it’s well worth the trip. When you get there, you’ll have to park up at the road and walk for about 8 mins. to get down onto the beach. Kilmory Knap Chapel is just before you go down to the beach. Push open the big door and go inside to see the amazing and ancient Christian carved stones. • Westport beach – it’s a long, sandy, surfer’s beach with fab sand dunes. It’s about 45 mins. away on the main road towards Campbeltown. The views out onto the Atlantic and across to Ireland are fabulous. • Carsaig beach – it’s about 30 mins. away. It’s a stony beach in a little bay that’s quite shallow, and perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding. Cycling: • There are various famous cycle tracks in the area with the closest one being at Achnabreac. • If you want a nice, easy cycle, then head for the Crinan Canal. You can ride to Lochgilphead, Cairnbaan or if you want to go a bit further, Crinan is an 18-mile round trip along the towpath. It’s well worth the experience and you can get something to eat when you get to Crinan. Walking: • We have some of the most beautiful walks in the West Coast of Scotland. There are too many to mention here, but there are links to look up in the book in the house. • The 39 steps is a forestry walk that starts along the road from the Coach house. Another personal favourite is Dunardry, which is just passed Cairnbaan. • Taynish National Nature Reserve has some wonderful walking and running tracks. Distilleries and Breweries • There are so many distilleries on Islay, Jura and Mull. Check Calmac's website for ferry prices, availability and timetables. • Campbeltown has the Glen Scotia Distillery • Oban has the Oban Distillery • There’s a super brewery at Fyne Ales. It’s about 45 mins. away, just after Inverary. Gardens: • At Loch Melford Hotel (about 30 mins towards Oban) you’ll find the beautiful Arduaine gardens, which are just on the side of the loch. There’s a café and a small garden centre there too. • Craerae Gardens are spectacular National Trust for Scotland gardens (about 20 mins towards Inverary). You’ll find tranquil woodlands with Himalayan plants and tumbling waterfalls. It’s a fab place for kids to visit too. Things to do with kids: • Lochgilphead has a nice playpark at the front • Cinema – there’s the Campbeltown Picturehouse • Swimming & Soft play – a fab pool in Lochgilphead which has both swimming and soft play and another at Campbeltown Aqualibrium too. • The Fyne Den is about 45 mins. away, just after Inverary at Carindow and it’s open 7 days a week. It’s inside and perfect for a rainy day. Shopping: • Lochgilphead has various gift shops for personal or home gifts. To name a few: • West Coast Home - Bee Sweet - The Square Peg - Bluestone - Argyll Gifts – The Community Shop – The Archway Gallery • Oban has more mainstream shops incl.
