Gurkha/Khukuri Themed Apartment with Breakfast
The Museum is a first of it's kind in Nepal (and dare we say, even the world). Not only are all our six distinct rooms/apartments culturally immersive but interactive as well. In collaboration with our partner company, Backstreet Academy, we've picked up six different crafts that culturally embedded in Nepali society and designed our apartments around them. Namely, woodwork, stone carving, Madal instrument, Thangka paintings, pottery and Khukuri (steel blades of the famed Gurkha warriors). A master craftsperson has taken responsibility of each apartment/room to display his uniquely hand-crafted work, and what makes our apartments special is you can meet and attend the workshops (all under 5 hours) of any of these craftsperson to truly culturally immerse yourself with the theme of your room. Or if you'd like you can also directly purchase the products of these craftsmen and avoid the overpriced souvenirs sold in the markets. This apartment in particular has the works displayed of Indra Bika, a master blacksmith who is a veteran of 20 years. The building itself was built over 30 years ago as a residential property, but we've renovated it to serve as a one-of-a-kind Bed & Breakfast. We also have a farmers market that's held in our gardens every Saturday from 7am to 1pm. We're a small Bed and Breakfast with 6 rooms. You will have access to your apartment at all times and you can also use the spacious garden and our roof top. There is also a cafe and restaurant in a 25 meter radius which stay open till 10pm that you can try out. I live a 7 minute drive away, and I'll be happy to help you anything you need during your stay here in Kathmandu. I also run a whole range of offbeat activities for travelers like street food tours, cooking classes, woodwork classes and even knife making sessions, so if that is of interest to you then I can arrange for those as well. I also travel quite often, but when I am not around my friend Kanti looks after the apartments and she will help you with anything you need. :) We are located in the heart of Kathmandu, a stone's throw distance from the best burger joints, super markets, cafe's and bakeries. While Panipokhari is primarily a residential area, there are several embassies (US, Australia, Japan, French, Israel and Denmark) and offices of the Nepal government in the vicinity. The best way to get here is in a taxi that are plentiful in Kathmandu, although you must know that your bargaining skills will be tested. ;) Important to note that the closest landmark to the apartment is the Presidents House (aka Rashtrapati Bhawan). So if you're taking a taxi back to the apartment as the taxi driver to take you to Panipokhari. Once in Panipokhari ask the taxi driver to look for the alley next to the Krishna Mandir (temple). Once you're on that alley the apartment is the last gate about 50 meters from the temple.
