Description
Our house is uniquely situated on a quiet 750 acre bird reserve with walks beside tidal creeks, a close shingle/sand beach or even across fields. The house enables unusually you to see the sunrise and sunset and has an enclosed dog friendly garden . The house has all that you need as a family, group of friends or a couple for a restful stay away from the hustle and bustle of life to recharge your batteries and enjoy nature at its best! The space Our family have owned Humperdink since 1965 and in 2015 my husband and I brought it into the 21st century, retaining its charm and character while adding some home comforts, including gas central heating with radiators and running hot water (which was a first for us never having this luxury before!) to make any stay memorable and pleasurable whatever the weather, or time of year. The surrounding area around the cottage is fields, sometimes occupied by cattle but the creek is just over the sea wall, literally a 5 min walk away. There are lots of different walks around our cottage and you can listen to the birds without the interruption of traffic. Our cottage is in a unique location on the Essex coast, which incidentally is one of the driest places in the UK, is adjacent to the Essex Wildlife Trust reserve on Colne Point which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest affording habitat for many different birds both resident and migratory. As a guest you are allowed access to the beaches and wildlife reserve, which could be described as a very exclusive experience as only members and residents are usually allowed. There is the opportunity to go back to your childhood and go crabbing just over the sea wall, as the road turns to the right there is the perfect spot where the creek goes under the road. Best time is just before or after the tide turns. The creek is tidal, filled by the sea, totally changing the scenery, and fun to swim, paddle board or kayake on. You can watch the high tides transform the landscape with the high high or low low tides, depending on the moon cycle. You may even experience a high high tide which are spectacular and usually happen in the spring and autumn! Check the tide times on the Tide app and Brightlingsea is your closest point. To find the sea and beach walk over the sea wall, follow the road round to the right, through the first gate, past the houses (some have been transformed into interesting houses and some have been forgotten about) through a second gate, over the bridge, past the wooden hut, follow the well trodden path and you will end up on a usually deserted beach which is shingle, and sand, changing with the tides. We always come back with handfuls of shells and often some sea glass. If you follow the beach to the left you will find yourself in Toosey beach and can then come back to the cottage along the sea wall. We have no hidden extras with our home, bed linen and towels are all included in the price. All pillows and mattresses have protector covers and are non allergic. Check in is 4 pm and check out is 11 am. The house has two bedrooms upstairs, one with a Shaker wooden Kingsize bed, that has views to the sea and a second bedroom with a wooden double bed, as well as a single bed, so this room can actually sleep three. Therefore this house can sleep 7. The back bedroom has spectacular views across the fields and also to the sea, where you can see the Wind Turbines near Clacton or watch the boats out to sea from the front bedroom. There is a room downstairs, at the back of the property, that can either be a bedroom as it has an Ikea sofabed that converts to a comfortable double bed, or you can have it as a playroom. There are a selection of toys, games and books for all to enjoy. This room has french doors which open out onto a decking area, complete with chairs and a dining table, all ready for you to enjoy your meal or drink a la fresco! An opportunity to see the multiple stars in the sky, without any light pollution However, during the winter the table and chairs are usually stored in the garage but there is a picnic table with benches available on the decking, which in the summer is kept at the front of the house . The outside lights work together and the switch is under the electric box in the kitchen just above the light switch to the kitchen. We have a travel cot and high chair, if appropriate, as well having a stairgate fitted at the bottom of the stairs. There are also a few toys for children of all ages, in the downstairs back room, books and games and a couzy coupe car, and another sit on toy in the garage as well as a little Wendy house. We’ve tried to think of everything. We provide a bin bag, with a spare, under the sink and a loo roll, as well as a couple of tea towels for your stay. Our house (known to us as "the cottage") has an open living space where you can cook, eat and socialize. There is a fitted, fully equipped kitchen, with a washing machine, electric oven, hob, air fryer and microwave. There is a coffee machine that uses Dulce gusto pods available for your use. In the living room there is a SMART TV/DVD player in the comfy sitting area with two sofas. The dining table can expand to sit 7 more comfortably. The bathroom again has a shower over the bath. Escape to our comfy and welcoming house and have a holiday you will always remember, away from the hustle and bustle of reality, an opportunity to enjoy the freedom that life rarely offers and amazing sunrises and sunsets if you’re lucky. The sea air will hopefully also help you to have a really good night's sleep. Guest access All except cupboard under the stairs which is kept locked, and the boat and tumble dryer, in the garage, this is for our own use please. The toys in the garage are there to be enjoyed and please take the wendy house out of the garage and use it wherever you would like. There are lots of crab lines and washing bowls to put the crabs into available also as well as buckets and spades and a wind break. Other things to note Dogs are very welcome at Humperdink but we do ask that we are advised about this when you book please and we only allow 2 dogs. There is also a charge of £25 per dog per stay to cover any extra cleaning. We do ask please that you clean up after your dog during your stay and your dogs don’t sleep on the beds please. We have fast broadband at our cottage and the code will be sent with the keysafe code just before your stay. Our cottage is 2 miles from the village of St Osyth where there is a Wave park and 5 miles from Clacton on Sea where there is an animal Park at Hastys and a pay and play golf park nearby at Millers Barn. Brightlingsea offers a boat trip as well as Mersea Island and there is a Vinyard at Mersea. Don't forget your wellies, or an old pair of trainers as it can get a bit muddy if it has rained. There are games, DVDs and children's toys for all ages. There are some binoculars at our cottage for you to enjoy during your stay and books to enjoy and hopefully identify the birds and even the shells on the beach. The garden around our cottage is enclosed, using wire and posts in the back garden, to keep it as unspoiled as possible allowing you to enjoy the uniqueness of the surrounding area. At the end of your stay please leave Humperdink as you found it, with the bin in the kitchen emptied into the green wheelie bin which is kept by the wall and emptied early Tuesday morning. Please also ensure the property is locked securely when you go out or leave at the end of your stay. We reserve the right to charge if extra cleaning is required, particularly with dogs and also for any badly damaged bed linen, towels or damage to the furniture. We do hope that you have a lovely stay at Humperdink, we think it is in rather unique surroundings but then we are rather biased!!! Please feel free to leave your comment in our guest book at our cottage and also please put a review on the Airbnb website, this all helps us with our rating. Many thanks
