La Carança, mountain house. Calm and nature!

Beautiful 17th-century renovated house, spanning 3 floors with over 100m². Perched at 1400m and facing south, it features a large, very flowery garden and a breathtaking view of the valley, Canigou, and the Carança massifs. Ideal for disconnecting! Wildlife is omnipresent and easy to observe. Numerous hiking or mountain biking trails start directly from the house. Our hamlet enjoys a Mediterranean climate and is located 40 minutes from the ski slopes and one hour from the sea. The space This is a non-smoking house and unfortunately not suitable for people with reduced mobility. We have internet via a box connected to an antenna. It works very well most of the time, but it can also happen that the connection is difficult in bad weather. Please avoid excessive downloading as we do not have unlimited internet. Pets are not allowed. Please remove your shoes in the house. Guest access Llar is not served by public transportation so you will need a car. The road leading to Llar from Fontpédrouse is a small mountain communal road that can be intimidating if you are not used to mountain roads or if you are prone to vertigo. It is bumpy and has some pot holes. They my also be some stones that need to be moved if they are in the middle of the road. Two cars cannot always pass each other, but there are many spots to pull over and let the other car pass. The road is 6 kilometers long and takes about 15-20 minutes to drive. If this bothers you, our place may not be suitable for you. In spring, summer, and early autumn, a regular car is sufficient; you do not need a 4x4. During snowy periods, you need to be equipped with snow tires and chains or have a 4x4. Free parking is available at the church square, 100 meters from the house, if there is space (which is almost always the case). If not, you can park at the entrance of the village. Other things to note Llar is in the deparment “Pyrénées Orientales 66”, located exactly in the Catalan Regional Natural Park, about half way between Perpignan and the small tax free country of Andorra. Perched at 1375 meters (4500 ft) of the south facing side of the mountain above the river La Têt. From the garden you can observe the little yellow train carrying its passengers on one of the most spectacular rail routes in Europe. The hot springs both in their natural environment and in the beautiful outdoor swimming pool of St Thomas les Bains are nearby. It takes about 30 min. by car to the Ski resort at Saint-Pierre-dels-Forçats and 40 min. for Font Romeu. Llar has less than ten inhabitants all year round. This small village is part of the municipality of Canaveilles, which is about 6 km walk away. Llar is on the Vauban trail, also called the cannon trail (chemin des canons) which is the historic military passage between the Vauban fortified villages of Villefranche de Conflent and Mont Louis. This path offers amazing panoramic viewpoints and passes through the villages of the Haut-Conflent, Jujols, Canaveilles, Llar and Sauto. It takes about 30 min. by car to the Ski resort at Saint-Pierre-dels-Forçats and 40 min. for Font Romeu. The area is mountainous with winding roads. Something to consider when planning trips in the area & estimating your arrival time so you don’t get here the first time in the dark! Llar has reliable electricity, water and ADSL supply, but no shop or bakery. The road is cleared of snow in periods of heavy snow (increasingly rare unfortunately) but it is of course necessary to provide the obligatory equipment for the arrival in winter.
