Idyllic Luxury Thatched Cottage on Devon Farm

Description

Fox Cottage is a little gem in South Devon. Beautifully refurbished, the 18th century thatched building is ideal for a relaxing break or for a longer stay. The Farm has rare-breed sheep, goats and chickens as well as heritage cider orchards and a 17th Century Cider House. From time-to-time produce can be bought during your stay. Tucketts is a peaceful regenerative farm and a wildlife haven. It's just a short walk over fields or through woodland to the Farm's shingle beach on the Teign estuary. The space The cottage is suitable for two people. Babies in travel cots or Moses baskets are welcome. Guests will have the run of most of the farm (apart from the areas to be avoided which are listed in the welcome pack) and can explore the orchards, fields and meadows. The farm, which covers around 63 acres of gardens, cider orchards, pastures, woodland and re-wilded marshland going down to the Teign estuary, is 17 miles from Exeter. The estuary has a variety of bird life including herons, cormorants and egrets. There are also cirl buntings in the farm’s hedgerows, reclusive long-eared owls in the woodland, little owls patrolling the orchards and various species of bats, some of which are very rare, flitting over the marsh. The Farm doesn't use chemicals or fertiliser on its land, hence the abundance of wildlife present here. The estuary can be used for watersports like kayaking and paddleboarding. If you bring your own equipment (as we do not supply any) you can use the track on our land to drive to the estuary. Please let us know in advance if you are interested in these activities. From the burgeoning beauty of Spring (and our Manx Loaghtan lambs being born) to the excitement of the apple harvest and cider-making in late Autumn, the Farm is a real treasure whatever the season. If you do decide to venture away from the Farm there's lots to do nearby. The lovely little seaside village of Shaldon is just a few miles away and there's the quirky town of Totnes and the splendour of Dartmoor within a 30 minutes drive. The 18th century cottage is one of a group of grade II* listed buildings constructed from the 17th to 20th century (see aerial photo) and was the original farmhouse. The thatched cider press and the barrel store date back to the 17th century. The cottage’s kitchen is up-to-date and extremely well-equipped, including Richard Bramble pottery. The cottage has a wet room with shower, with Cowshed toiletries, and there is a shared laundry and freezer in the Arts and Crafts stables next door. The cottage’s living room has a traditional working fireplace and cosy open fire. Logs, matches and firelighters are provided. There is also a selection of books. The bedroom has beautiful exposed beams and a wooden floor. The comfortable bed has an electric blanket with individual controls for each side. Dressing gowns are provided for the duration of your stay, along with complementary slippers. The cottage has a private outside seating area with a gas barbeque.
