La Cuadra: Stone, Wood and Calm in La Alpujarra

Description

La Placeta Guesthouse is a charming rural complex deep in the Alpujarra of Granada, set in a unique natural landscape at 1,300 metres above sea level, in Pórtugos: a small, peaceful village between Pampaneira and Trevélez. Fully equipped apartments for an unforgettable, peaceful stay. Each apartment is independent, with a living room and kitchen, a bathroom, a bedroom, and a private terrace leading out to the shared areas. Come and live the experience! The space The stables of traditional Alpujarran houses are quality builds. Set right on the street, they stay cool in summer and warm in winter. That's why we've put this building — right next to our own home, and once part of it — to good use, so that the people who matter most at La Placeta, our guests, have every comfort. This apartment comes fully equipped with a wood-burning stove (wood included in the price) and heating, a living room with kitchen, one double bedroom, one bathroom, and a private terrace leading out to the garden and pool. You can read a bit more about what it's like to share this space with us under "Other things to note," so you arrive with the full picture. Guest access You can enjoy our lush garden (shared with other guests and with us), with a lawn area and a saltwater pool, so your swims are free of chemicals. As in the rest of the property, we also ask that you keep to our quiet hours in the garden, from 23:00 to 9:00. Our pets (our beloved dog Flamenca and our cat Candela) are very friendly and also share the garden. Other things to note La Cuadra is on the ground floor, as is our own home — in an annexe beside the house that once formed part of it. That is where its character comes from: stone walls, wooden beams and slate ceilings, and the feeling of being inside a real Alpujarran house rather than a holiday apartment. And that is exactly why we tell you this before you book. It is the apartment where you notice most that the house is alive: there is another apartment above, we live next door with our twins, and the renovation we carried out in 2011 did not include acoustic insulation, so sound carries more than it would in a modern building — footsteps, a chair, water running through a pipe. We keep quiet hours from 10pm to 8am and ask the same of every guest, ourselves first. During the day, this is a lived-in house in an Alpujarran village, with the ordinary life that comes with it. That said, guests very rarely raise it as a problem: the great majority of people who stay here sleep well and enjoy precisely that sense of an authentic home. But if you are a light sleeper, or you find it hard to drop off, take a look first at Esauira or Marrakech, two other apartments on the same grounds: self-contained, opening onto the garden, with nothing above you to disturb your rest. We would rather help you choose well than have you here sleeping badly. About pets: they are welcome, provided they are well behaved, stay off the sofa and the bed, and respect the peace of our other guests (please remember to include them in your search details). In the shared areas they must be kept on a lead and always accompanied by you.
