The Skipper's Hut, Balquhidder

The Skipper’s Hut is located in the heart of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, in the beautiful Braes of Balquhidder. It sits on a wooded knoll overlooking Loch Voil. In earlier times, the hut was used by the skipper of the estate’s electric launch for trips on special occasions. The space The hut is built from old Swedish Pine with a pantiled roof. Inside, it is wood-lined, painted in a light, airy colour, and simply but practically furnished. A mezzanine floor holds a double mattress, with a window overlooking the loch and a skylight for stargazing. Beneath the mezzanine there is a double bed. Both sleeping areas are provided with plain white cotton bedding, plus extra blankets and cushions. The living area also includes a comfy sofa, kitchen table, and chairs. Please note: the cooking and washing facilities, as well as the shower and toilet, are accessed from the outside deck in an adjoining wooden shed. The only sink is located in the kitchen area. This is in keeping with the hut’s simple glamping style. The hut is heated by a wood-burning stove, and an electric heater is also provided. The Hut comes with the additional option to hire a Hikki bath on-top of your stay. Guest access A stay at the Skipper’s Hut is about slowing down and embracing Highland life. Nearby you will find Monachyle Mhor Hotel, Mhor 84 Motel, fishing and boat hire, local bike hire, downhill cycle tracks, forest cycling routes, walking and hillwalking trails, lochside walks, and Glencoe Ski Resort (about an hour’s drive). After a day of exploring the glen, you can return to cosy comfort, if you wish, elevate your stay with a few unique extras: - Mini Green Egg BBQ – £30 per stay (including charcoal). Perfect for slow cooking, roasting, or grilling. For something truly special, you can pre-arrange delivery of local wild venison sausages and cuts, sourced right at the top of the glen, to enjoy on the glowing coals. Please note a standard charcoal BBQ is provided free of charge. - Hikki Wood-Burning Hot Tub – £60 per stay (including your first batch of logs). Sink into the warmth of your private Scandinavian-style hot tub, surrounded by mountain air and breathtaking views. Whether it’s an invigorating morning soak or a night under the stars, it’s the ultimate way to unwind. Extra bundles of logs are available at £10 each. As these are just optional extras, please message us before booking to check availability, to avoid any disappointment. As they don’t come with a standard stay. Other things to note - Please bring your own food; the nearest shop is 20 minutes away in Callander on the A84. - Basics such as tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, condiments, cleaning materials, washing-up liquid, and dish towels are provided. - The hut is situated 2 miles up into the glen from the A84, then half a mile west along the lochside on a rough track road. - A small amount of wood is supplied; additional wood may be purchased if you wish to burn more. - Please avoid bringing outdoor shoes into the main living area. Pets We welcome one dog or cat per stay, with a *£25* charge for extra cleaning. The hut is small, so it is not suitable for very large dogs. Pets must be kept on leads at all times outside the hut.
