Ash Field Yurt

This yurt with a view has 2 bedrooms- the main space has one King size bed, plus a double and a single futon. Accessed through a small doorway in the main yurt, there is a 10ft pod with double futon so that the kids can have their own space. There is a simple two ring gas burner and grill for cooking on, plenty of crocks and pots and other utensils for eating and cooking. Tea lights and solar lights provide light at night and a wood burning stove with wood and kindling supplied for heating. The space ARRIVING: Once you turn off the main road onto the track you soon leave the tarmac and houses behind and find yourself rolling down into the heart of the farm. Arriving in the small car park, and after a phone call to Tim, you will be welcomed and shown to your yurt. ASH FIELD YURT AND POD Each of the three Yurts (made here at Yurtworks) are set up on decks in their own secluded patch. The Ash Field Yurt and Pod is the largest of the three, sleeping six people in total and stands about 100 meters from the car park. Wheelbarrows are available for carrying bags. SLEEPING Includes one king size bed, two fold out futons and one single futon. Bedlinen, duvets, pillows and towels are provided. HEATING AND COOKING The wood burning stove is set to one side and with the wood and kindling provided, it warms the yurt up in minutes. Cooking is on a simple two ring gas cooker and grill. There is no oven. There are plenty of cooking utensils, pots and pans, and crocks and cutlery. Food storage in pine dressers and on shelves hanging from the trellis. There is a chill box in each yurt and facility for keeping ice packs cold. LIGHTING. There are solar lights in the yurt and two rechargeable lights for reading, as well as candle lanterns. LOO There is a dry composting loo nearby. OUTSIDE THE YURT There is a two person hammock and swing, a fire pit, picnic table and a view of the valley stretching as far as the sea in the distance. KITCHEN There is a small shared kitchen for washing up, and charging devices. There is also a fridge freezer available and board games, books and magazines. Additional freezer space is available on request. RECYCLING Outside the kitchen there are facilities for composting and recycling. SHOWER AND SAUNA There is a shared Shower pod and beautiful Scandinavian style, wood fired Sauna. COOKING OUTSIDE There are simple fire bowls with griddles for cooking outside. Charcoal is not provided and we ask guests to bring their own pans if they want to cook over an open fire. We started the business in 2001 with only one yurt and since then have grown modestly, maintaining a healthy balance between what we do and the natural environment. This low impact but maximum comfort approach has defined Cornish Yurt Holidays as one of the most environmentally friendly sites of this kind. The holding supports a handful of traditional Hereford cows, on land that has been managed to maximise biodiversity and the wildlife that lives here. The discovery of the rare Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterfly has led to special conservation measures to enhance and protect the habitat to support their survival. With burning log fires and big open skies on the edge of Bodmin Moor the yurts are in a beautiful spot. The river flows in the valley below and the moors lie behind. The views of North Cornwall stretch as far as the sea. The yurts are in a very peaceful setting away from the hurly burly of daily life, surrounded by beautiful trees and birdsong often with buzzards wheeling overhead. But it is just on the edge of the village, a 10 minute walk to the shop and the pub and only a half hour drive to the north coast. There are fine walks onto the moors and down into the valleys or you can wander through our fields and woods down to the banks of the river Camel. Guest access There are maps in each of the yurts showing pathways around the property. Visitors are free to roam around most of the land and there are good connecting footpaths up the valley and onto the moors beyond. Other things to note CORNWALL UNPLUGGED AND OFF GRID: While there are charging facilities, hot water, a fridge freezer and access to a washing machine, - the essential mod cons to make a stay here comfortable and enjoyable- we hope that the heart and soul of the place is best experienced without the distractions of tv, computer and other electrical gadgetry. For this reason it may not be a holiday for everyone but for those who would like a break from all the tech and internet chatter this could be a very special escape.. PLACES TO VISIT Bodmin Moor St.Breward lies on the edge of Bodmin Moor, an area of outstanding natural beauty and an excellent starting point for exploring the moor on foot. From your yurt you can set off to climb Brown Willy , the highest tor in Cornwall. It is a a good days circular walk through moorland farms, across small streams and over the moors. On clear days from the top you can see the sea on the north and south coast. An easier but very pretty trail leads to the Blisland Inn in the neighbouring village, with outdoor seating overlooking the village green and the best ale in Cornwall. There are !:25000 OS maps in the yurts of the surrounding area and we are always available to recommend places to visit and interesting walking routes. Cliffs near Trebarwith, north CornwallSea We are about 12 miles from the north coast, which has beautiful beaches and striking cliff walks. For a change to lying on the beach all day or walking the coast path, there are opportunities to surf, sea kayak, or coasteer. Polzeath Beach, north Cornwall Beach Cornwall has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, ideal places to mess about in the sand or learn to surf. Woods Cornwall is not renowned for its woodlands, but what it has is full of gnarly character. The river valleys and estuary edges have some lovely woods and the estates of Lanhydrock and Pencarrow have some beautiful trees. Cycling A little further downstream from the yurt camp is the start of the Camel Trail, a cycle route which follows the river all the way to Padstow, on the camel estuary. Bikes can be hired from Camel cycle hirein Wadebridge or from The Snails Pace Cafe at the head of the Camel Trail less than a mile from the yurts Fishing Temple Fishery for rainbow trout is only a short 15 minute drive away up on the moor. Sea Fishing trips can be organised out of Padstow, Port Isaac, and Looe. Several happy hours can be spent on our stretch of the river Camel fishing for wild brown trout. Climbing For rainy days there is an excellent Climbing Barn with beginners routes and bouldering facilities about 45 minutes drive from here. Sea Kayaking Can be organised out of Port Quin on the north Coast.
