Description

Nestled in rolling hills with 40 acres of private tracks, fields, streams, woodland and ancient lime kilns to explore, this rural hideaway is popular with walkers, cyclists and those just wishing to escape the mass media or hustle and bustle of everyday life. Recharge your batteries and enjoy the great outdoors as you toast some marshmallows over the fire pit, say hello to the pet sheep and soak up the sights and sounds of birds, wildlife and sunsets in this peaceful relaxing retreat. The space Set in the grounds of the owners 13th century Grade 2 Listed farmhouse, Puzzle Tree Cottage is a comfortable, detached self catering cottage for two. With oil central heating and real flame electric fire, it has an open plan living, dining and well equipped kitchen area including oven/grill, ceramic hob, microwave, under counter fridge with small freezer compartment, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, tv, dvd player and radio. The bedroom with double bed leads to an en-suite bathroom which houses a shower over bath, toilet, hand basin and washing machine. Outside there is comfortable garden furniture so you can dine al fresco or relax with your favourite drink as you watch the sun go down! The wooden pedestrian gate outside Puzzle Tree Cottage leads to 40 acres of our own private land of track, fields, woodland, stream and ancient lime kilns which guests are free to wander and explore. You will also find the newly installed fire pit area just the other side of this gate where you can enjoy panoramic views across Mork Valley and all the great outdoors has to offer as you toast some marshmallows over the fire pit or say hello to the nine pet sheep: Arabella, Cat, Mable, April, Bella Black Spot, Maya, Blossom, Jasmine and Hope :) A complimentary basket of wood, kindling and fire lighters is provided for your first fire in the fire pit. Any further baskets are charged at £5 each so just let us know if you need any more (or you are more than welcome to bring your own). Marshmallows for toasting are also provided along with two skewers so enjoy! There is lockable storage for bicycles and a hose for cleaning muddy tyres or boots in the "Puzzle Tree Bike Store" located underneath the wing of the main house which lies adjacent to the cottage, plus a free drying service for clothes is available within the main house if the weather is unpredictable. From this tranquil setting guests can explore the Royal Forest of Dean, enjoyable in all seasons, and the Lower Wye Valley, the magnificent borderland between England and Wales. The River Wye and Offas Dyke is 2 miles down the road (or cross our land and go cross country to pick up the ancient trail) plus all the attractions of the Forest of Dean are within a 10 minute drive. Clearwell Caves, Puzzle Wood - a popular location for the ‘Dr Who’ series, the historic villages of St Briavels, with its ancient moated castle, and Tintern, renowned for its impressive Abbey are a short drive away. Guest access The cottage is accessed by a single step at the front door. All on one level, there is ample parking directly outside. The wooden pedestrian gate outside Puzzle Tree Cottage leads to the fire pit area plus 40 acres of our own private land of track, fields, woodland, stream and ancient lime kilns which guests are free to wander and explore. Other things to note Please note the cottage is for TWO ADULTS ONLY and SORRY WE DO NOT ACCEPT BABIES, INFANTS, CHILDREN OR PETS (so please don’t ask). The postcode will stop half a mile short of where we actually are so please read and save the direction sheet we send you after booking. It’s amazing the number of guests who don’t then struggle with the last half a mile! Mobile phone reception in the area is poor (unless you’re with EE) so WiFi calling is recommended for making calls. Stowe Court is a 400-year-old Grade II listed property; due to its heritage status we don’t have permission for EV charging on-site yet — but there are rapid public chargers in the local town of Coleford (2.5 miles away). Due to it’s rural location and lack of public transport, a car is recommended to maximise your stay here with us :)
