Cottage in Cantabria
Description
Toranzo is a beautiful valley in the center of Cantabria, which runs south-north, perpendicular to the Cantabrian Sea and is traversed by the Pas River. It is made up of a multitude of small towns and villages, all of them with a very special charm, large meadows, forests and mountain landscapes define this territory that is part of the nucleus of the Pasiega culture, also known for its gastronomy. Thus, sobaos pasiegos and quesadas are typical and original. Guest access The house is rented in its entirety and is for the exclusive use of guests, both indoors and outdoors, during their stay. Free Wi-Fi connection service is available. Other things to note Prases is one of the smallest villages in the valley with only 84 inhabitants. It is renowned for one of the best cheeses in Spain called "Oro de Prases". It is a handmade, matured, natural rind cheese made with raw cow's milk and with slight greenish-blue outcrops of penicillium near the edges and we can even find these greenish tones somewhere inside the cheese. (You can visit the cheese factory). Very close to Prases we recommend visiting the beautiful village of Puente Viesgo where you will find one of the most important sets of prehistoric caves in the region, where you can see a great diversity of rock art from the Upper Paleolithic, with more than 150 animal figures and a large number of signs. The testimonies they provide are practically unparalleled and their value, both as a site and for their rock art, is incalculable. The caves that form this set are: El Castillo, Las Chimeneas, La Pasiega and Las Monedas. We also recommend a visit to the Pasiegas villages of Vega de Pas or San Pedro del Romeral, where it is worth highlighting their rural architecture, concretized in the Pasiega hut, whose influence is evident in their traditional way of life. It is a simple stone construction used by the Pasiegos in their particular transhumant life in search of the best pastures for livestock. If you are a gastronomic traveler, you should know that sobao and quesada are the native sweets of Cantabria par excellence, achieving their maximum exquisiteness in this municipality. The Pasiegos keep their homemade recipes with the most rigorous zeal and only pass them on from generation to generation. Their homemade butter and Pasiego cheeses are equally extraordinary, as is the excellent meat in the area thanks to the good pastures in the region. You can't leave without trying the famous "Helados López", known throughout Cantabria for their flavor and especially the Pasiego cheese ice cream. For daily purchases, we recommend going to Alceda - Ontaneda about 5 km away, where you will have several supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, bars, etc. Regarding leisure and sports for the youngest in that same town, you have one of the largest forest adventure parks in Spain and the only one located within a botanical garden, it is built on huge sequoias, cedars and firs. It is located in a privileged environment on the banks of the Pas River in Alceda and within a botanical garden. You can enjoy a climbing wall, 4 adventure circuits, 3 high-altitude routes and one for children, 3 mini circuits for practice and more than 65 activities in an area of 4 hectares. Alceda also has a spa with thermal baths and a municipal swimming pool. Registration Details 9015632
