Description
The Blackthorn is a hand crafted glamping shepherds hut based on Blatchbridge Farm, Frome on the Somerset/Wiltshire boarder. Built in the traditional style but with modern insulation materials, bedding and a purpose made cosy wood burning stove. Each hut can sleep up to two people. Groups All three huts can be booked for groups of 6 in total, please see the other listings below; The Willow (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/33330951) and The Oak (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/33331303) The space The shepherds hut is set in the fields of a former working farm and is the perfect glamping gateway in its true sense, with no internet access and offering only the basic needs. The hut is equipped with a double bed fitted with a mattress protector, pillows and duvet (£15 cleaning fee covers the costs of laundry etc) a table and chairs, lighting, a perfectly sized wood burning stove and power to charge a phone. There is access to a shared kitchen with hob, microwave, washing machine and all the utensils and crockery you will need. The three huts also have access to two shared shower/WC bathrooms. The farm is located on the Frome side of the A361 so expect some distant traffic noise at certain times of the day. Outside each hut has there own BBQ area for the use of disposable BBQs (please bring your own), but we ask that you dispose of the hot coals and ash responsibly. Dogs are welcome provided they are well behaved. PLEASE BRING A DOG BED as no dogs are allowed on the bed (we have free range hens here at the farm) and are the responsibility of the owner. Please don’t leave the dogs in the hut unattended. The huts are located in a large paddock and there is another paddock leading off it which you are welcome to use for exercise. Guest access Blatchbridge Farm is accessed via secure gates with key-code access, and The huts are down the drive past the farm yard and pole barn, and at the end of the workshop building, park this side of the five bar gate. Go though the five bar gate into the field and you will see the huts on the left The Blackthorn is the first of the three huts in the row, The key to the hut will be located in a key safe by the door. During your stay The hut is roughly 200 meters from the main farm house with our cottages (‘The Old Milking Parlour’ and ‘The Old Cow Shed’) located in the farm yard. We like to think we are close enough to be on hand but also far enough away for you to feel independent. Other things to note Blatchbridge Farm is only a five minute drive/thirty minute walk from Frome. We have good links to the railway (Frome station five minutes, Warminster roughly fifteen to twenty minutes), and easy access to the A361 and B3092 so Bath, Longleat, Stonehege, Salisbury, Bristol and the Mendips are all with in a hours drive away. We do have cats, dogs and chickens here on the farm, so do not be surprised if a cat is curled up on the bed if the doors or windows are left open! The hut is accessed via wooden steps with no hand rail and is in a field, we cannot guarantee the ground is 100% level and there is no fixed lighting past the main farm yard so caution must be taken when making your way to the hut (after a few tipples!) We advise the use of flat shoes and/or welly boots and to bring a torch. We do not take any responsibility for any accidents during your stay here. If you feel this is not the right place for you we do also have disabled friendly holiday cottages on the farm. The kitchen and bathroom facilities are shared with two other huts, so we ask you to be courteous to the other guest and ensure you leave the facilities in the condition you found them. We ask that you try and recycle as much of your waste as possible in the correct bins, and that any BBQ ashes are only disposed of when cold. The Frome branch line does run past the farm, so trains can on occasion be heard from outside the property. The holiday cottages and huts are non-smoking but your welcome to smoke outside and dispose of waste correctly.
