The Mandala House

Our treasured Orcas Island home is set on the western side of Mt. Constitution, near Moran State park. Tucked away in the woods, you can enjoy gorgeous views of the deep forest. Sit on the deck and have coffee while deer come close and check you out. Lay in the hammock and watch eagles soar overhead. Our neighborhood is quiet and safe. Eastsound, Cascade lake, and Rosario Resort are less than 10 minutes away. Peace and quiet for the heart and soul! The space My heart is in this home. I lived here for six years before I moved to Seattle (to be closer to my family). I hope you like it too. I love color and can't live without it, so each room is a different color. My kiddos picked the colors for their spaces (the bedrooms downstairs). There is a wood stove for heating as well as electric heating, cozy up to a fire during the winter and watch a movie with your loved ones. There are hardwood floors in most rooms. The dining room table has two leafs and can seat 8-10 people and there is also a breakfast nook in the kitchen which can seat 4-5 people. The rooms: There are four bedrooms. Upstairs there is the master bedroom and a second bedroom we call the "Purple room" (this room must be specially requested if guests wish to use it). The master has an ensuite bathroom and kingsize bed, hardwood floors and a gorgeous view into the forest. The purple room is across the hall and has a queen, twin bed and a desk for working at. Downstairs there are two bedrooms, each with two stackable beds which are wonderfully versatile. They can used as a single bed, double bed or even be put together to make a king size. In the living room, if needed, there is also a queen size pull out couch. Bathrooms: There are two. The master has a ensuite bathroom with shower. The second bathroom, bath and shower, is downstairs between the two bedrooms. Outside: There is a fire pit and chairs to hang out in. A hammock and a picnic table. You are welcome to use whatever outside gear you find in the house, such as kids toys, kids teepee, lounging chairs, ect. Please put everything back where you found it. Your kids can play safely outside, the neighborhood is very safe and there is very little traffic. Behind the house, there are 4 acres of community forest to wander through. You can't get lost because the acreage is surrounded by a neighborhood road. We back up against Moran State Park. Follow deer trails and explore! In our garden, watch as dragonflies buzz around and butterflies go from flower to flower. My mom was an herbalist so there are many medicinal plants here, echinacea, lemon balm, mint, chamomile, calendula, to name a few. You are welcome to pick and take with mindfulness, put some in your morning tea! There are three apple trees, a pear tree and two plums. Enjoy while you are there, but please pick only what you will eat during your stay. Internet and TV: Access to your own Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime accounts is available on the big screen. There is also a movie selection upstairs, and of course wifi to access the internet from your own devices. Please be aware that on the island internet can be a lot slower, especially up on the hill. The movie theater in town shows a movie once a week on Fridays and Saturdays. There are also places to rent movies on the island, such as Country Corner. Guest access The "purple room" must be requested, otherwise it will remain private. Please enjoy the garden! Entry is only available through the back gate. Remember to shut the gate to keep our beautiful garden from being eaten up by our plentiful island deer. They can devour the entire garden in a few hours!
