Description

A 200 year-old stone cottage in the beautiful Roughty valley, close to the village of Kilgarvan, the beautiful heritage town of Kenmare and also Killarney and its famous National Park. The cottage maintains many original features including the original stone floor and hearth. It’s set on its own private garden where you can truly enjoy the peace and quiet of this amazing place and is also an ideal base for discovering so much including the Ring of Kerry and the Beara Penninsula. The space We love this place and hope you will too. The cottage was built in 1820 and was restored about 20 years ago by the previous owner, John McCormack. Hence John’s Cottage in recognition of the work he did here. It’s a comfortable and slightly quirky space meaning you will have to mind your head a lot of the time! We have put in some effort of our own too adding some updates to make sure you have the best possible stay and that it feels like home away from home. The main bedroom has a standard double bed, while the second bedroom has a small double. The cottage is close to so much, offering countless amazing day-trips. Kenmare is less than a 15 minute drive with Killarney just over 20 minutes away. The Ring of Kerry and all that has to offer along with its equally stunning but slightly less famous neighbour, the Ring of Beara, are very close. Add to that numerous hiking trails including the Kerry Way, biking trails (we’re on the Kilgarvan-Beara loop) and beaches. The kitchen is equipped for eating in, but there are so many great options to eat out close-by and we’re happy to share some recommendations with you. There are two small grocery stores in Kilgarvan which is less than 5 minutes by car. Kenmare has SuperValu, Lidl and Aldi. Add Tesco and M&S in Killarney. Guest access It’s all yours to enjoy while you’re here. We do live next-door but won’t be interfering in your holiday, unless of course there’s something you need. The washing machine and dryer are shared in a stone shed between the two properties. We live next door but your privacy is of utmost importance to us. Our priority is that you have a great stay, whatever that means to you. We’re here for any advice you might need, anything that might make your stay more comfortable…..and if you run out of milk and the shop is closed…chances are we have some to spare! Finally, if you would like to enjoy a day-long private tour (Ring of Kerry, Ring of Beara or Dingle) please ask. Weekends only or weekdays by special advance notice request. Other things to note Certain things are a way of life in the country, especially in such a unique and old property. In spite of our thorough cleaning before you check in, don’t be surprised if a cobweb or two appear during your stay. In the evenings you can expect some sound from neighbouring animals, both those on nearby farms and those who live wild all around us such as deer and foxes. Finally, as previously mentioned, mind your head!
