The Tree Retreat - huge pool, playground & garden

Escape and Unwind The Tree Retreat with its beautiful colonial architecture and lush & tropical gardens is a beautiful oasis of tranquility located in a peaceful rural setting in the south of Sri Lanka - 15 min drive from the surf town of Hikkaduwa. Built in 1939 when Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon and it was still under British rule, The Tree Retreat has since been sympathetically renovated to reflect its colonial heritage while offering all of the comforts of modern living The space Unique Style The Tree Retreat merges both the modern and the traditional, reflecting an eclectic mix of industrial, vintage and contemporary styling with a touch of tropical. Many of the spectacular features you will notice throughout the house have been there since it was first built which have since been lovingly restored. Others have been re-created in the same style by local craftsman from locally sourced timber. Nearly all the furniture has been handmade in this way, from the beds to the night stands, tables, bathroom units and even the spiral staircase leading to Mangosteen - the loft bedroom. The Tree Retreat has a huge tropical garden of nearly one and a half acres which is surrounded by a beautiful tea plantation. It is home to a wonderful variety of plants, trees and flowers including jack fruit, cinnamon, mango, papaya, banana, papaya, passion fruit, avocado, cacao, guava, clove, curry leaf, bread fruit, vanilla, aloe vera, pineapple, mangosteen, birds of paradise flowers, ginger lilies and of course lots of coconut trees. Feel free to enjoy the fruits of the garden with a fresh fruit smoothie or a tropical fruit platter during your stay. Adventure playground Your kids' own private playground! The garden has a large adventure playground with a massive tree house with its own bell, post box and secret signs to entertain the kids. It also has a massive tree swing which seats 2-3 children, a separate swing set with even more swings and trapeze bars. A baby swing is also available upon request The playground has a range of equipment made from local timber including wobble walk swing bars, a climbing frame, a rock climbing wall with a scramble climbing net, monkey swing bars, balance bars as well as a secret fairy garden. A slack line is also available if the children would like to try their hand at tight rope walking) The entire playground area is located in a self-contained area shaded by lots of trees. Even though we have kids we know many people don't so the garden has been designed to ensure the play area is unobtrusive and is separate to the rest of the grounds. Pool A 45 foot pool made from natural green marble and complete with fibre optic lighting for a starry sky swim experience. Rooms -All rooms are large, bright and spacious -4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. Includes 3 large double bedrooms and 1 large kids room with triple bunks as well as a large bed sofa. - Separate TV and entertainment lounge with a 50 inch flatscreen TV and massive library of our favourite DVDs, books and board games for adults and children. The TV is also connected to Amazon Prime and Netflix. Just sign in and watch. For gamers, we also have an Xbox together with a wide selection of video games. - Separate one double bedroom cottage (chargeable separately) -2 x bed sofas - one in the TV lounge and another in the kids’ room -Custom made, locally sourced furniture -Polished concrete floors -A/C and fans in all rooms -Wi-Fi -Hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel available in all rooms Number of guests The property is listed to sleep a maximum of seven guests (including children) who are named on the booking. Please note that only guests named on the booking are authorized to be on the property and this is a condition of your stay. Any additional unnamed guests will not be permitted. Rambutan, Tamarind are large doubles. Mangosteen is a loft room and subsequently ceilings are low (standing height where the eaves meet) so may be more suitable for children Each of these rooms sleeps two people. Jambola - Sleeps three (triple bunk bed - Ikea adult size single mattresses). The Cottage If you have teenagers wanting their own space or just need some extra room, The Cottage - a beautiful one bedroom house surrounded by coconut trees - is available on the property about 50 meters from the main house. Decorated to the same standards as The Tree Retreat, The Cottage which sleeps two people has all the comforts you will need for a relaxing stay. Although not included in The Tree Retreat rental rate, it is unoccupied so please let us know if you would like to use it during your stay. Please note there is a separate charge for The Cottage payable at the property at a rate of $80 per night. Babies Travel cots, a high chair as well as a child size table and chairs are available upon request. A stair gate is has also fitted at the entrance to the spiral staircase. Our team We know how important it is to have a trustworthy and reliable team of people who will do everything they can to help make your holiday go as smoothly as possible. A property manager who is fluent in English is available 24/7 and can facilitate any requests you may have. We also have a daily caretaker who attends to the garden as well as a daily maid service. Malani our housekeeper will take care of all the cleaning and laundry, and will also wash any dishes you may have. She will also make the beds daily and ensure your sheets and towels are changed every three days. Guest access Only guests including children who are named on the booking are permitted to access the property. Our maximum occupancy is 7 people including infants and children of all ages. Electricity Please note that we operate a reasonable usage policy for the electricity due to very high energy costs in Sri Lanka. Standard usage is free of change however usage in excess of 1500 LKR a day (around $10 USD) will be charged separately. Meter readings will be taken and tariffs shared with you at the start of your stay. In our experience, mindful electricity usage, for example not leaving the AC running when not in the property does not usually incur any additional charges.
