Beautiful converted 19th century barrelhouse

Our property is in a very peaceful village, surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers. The famous town of Cognac with its distilleries (Remy Martin, Hennessy, Martell, Otard) is just a short drive away. Within easy reach are the towns of Saintes, St Jean d'Angely and Angouleme which we also find convenient for shops and meals out. We are a 10 minute drive away from the town of Matha which has bakers, butchers, chemists, Post Office, banks, restaurants, hairdressers etc. and several supermarkets. The space Beautiful newly converted 19th century barrel house, originally built to store the barrels of cognac once made on the property. The barn is of Charantais stone, as is our adjacent home, and in a tranquil village setting. The gite has its own private enclosed garden laid to lawn with flower beds. Kitchen and dining The kitchen includes a fridge with freezer compartment, gas hob, oven, microwave, kettle and toaster. Well equiped with pots and pans, china and cutlery. The china is kept on a lovely old dresser. The dining table will seat two/four. A limited stock of useful items is provided including tea, coffee, milk, sugar, salt, pepper, oil, herbs, washing up liquid and cloths. There is cleaning equipment under the sink. There are also tea towels and hand towels as well as some foil, kitchen paper and cling film. We ask that you replace anything you finish. Thank you. Living rooms The living area is quite spacious and has 2 comfortable armchairs, a television (BBC, ITV etc) and fast fibre optic wi-fi. Plenty of maps, guide books, games etc. Bedroom The bedroom area has a double bed (140cm wide) with cotton bed linen including antique pillow cases. The duvet and pillows have synthetic fillings, both for their anti-allergy properties and so that they can be laundered regularly. It also has bedside tables with lamps, hangers for clothes and a chest of drawers. There is a small hair dryer. Two large bath towels and two hand towels are provided. Bathroom En suite to the bedroom is a bathroom with a large shower, toilet and basin. Toilet rolls, soap, hand towels and cleaning products are provided. Heating Heating is by electric radiators. There may be a charge for heating during the winter months. Guest access The gite has its own private garden with lawn and flower beds. We provide sun loungers. Lots of privacy. Other things to note UK and French television, and broadband WiFi are freely available in the gite. There are sports facilities in most of the local towns.
