Description
Our lovely 12th century castle has been visited by many people before you. In the 13th century, the future Pope Clement stayed the 5th for a number of days in Château de Barayre. The castle is a real family castle. The grounds and buildings are shared with 3 generations of people staying true to the historic atmosphere while adding all the contemporary luxuries; a lovely swimming pool, a equipped kitchen, and several lovely terraces in the large park garden. The space The buildings of Barayre Castle form a private courtyard with a herb garden. At the front, there is a large park garden with, among other things, the pool. There are forests and meadows all around. The driveway with imposing old plane trees takes you under the tower. The complex consists of 4 buildings, 1 building/gite is rented, which has its own front door. The other buildings are inhabited by us with our two small children under 10 years old and sometimes the grandparents from around 80 are also there. In the summer months, 2 buildings/gites are rented The Gite: A wide monumental staircase connects two generous floors, where with respect for the history, the spaces are tastefully decorated. Centrally located on the ground floor is the 12th-century mansion room with a large fireplace, long dining table - for dinners up to 16 people - and a relaxed seating area with WiFi. From this room you open the doors to the kitchen, bathroom and park garden. Several terraces in the park garden around the building ensure that you can enjoy the sun all day - if necessary - the shade. On the ground floor there are two rooms; the tower room with double bed and private bathroom and the 17th century ‘Green Room’ with four single bed. On the third floor, there are three rooms. This can be reached through the monumental stairwell or the secret staircase that is hidden in the meters of thick walls. The chic tower room has a double bed, large closet and table and has its own shower, sink and bidet. The "solarium" (9x5m) has high ceilings, seating area, double 4-poster bed and high windows overlooking the park garden and the courtyard of the castle. The "Orange Room", with a fireplace and a beautiful view over the landscape and the pool, has 4 single beds. The shared bathroom is in the solarium. The large and chic tower room has a double bed (also for long guests), large closet and table and features its own sink and bidet. Centrally located on the ground floor is the 12th-century mansion room with a large fireplace and long table, wooden parquet flooring, and a laid-back seating area with WiFi. From this room you can open the doors to the kitchen and park garden. Several terraces in the park garden around the building ensure that you can enjoy the sun all day, or if desired, the shade. Guest access As a tenant you have access to the entire rental area of the castle with 5 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, different bathrooms, living room and solarium. Outside the park garden with, among other things, the semi-private pool and various terraces. Multiple parking spaces are free to use. Other things to note In the event that Covid 19 makes it impossible to travel to or within France, we would like to give you the opportunity to cancel at no cost on our part. Please make a request to us through Airbnb to cancel free of charge, including the reason. Breakfast is not included as standard, but we are happy to make it. A table filled with a delicious French 'petit dejeuner' costs 8.50€8.50 per person. Please let us know when booking. We do not have a daily open kitchen, but on request we can prepare a three or four-course dinner for you up to 2 evenings a week. The washing machine is in the house of the managers, here you can possibly turn laundry for a fee.
