This contemporary house, designed by an architect, is located in a private and peaceful hilltop setting from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the northwestern mountain range of Arga. The house is a 12 minute drive from the picturesque and historical city of Ponte de Lima. If you walk uphill from the house you will see a breathtaking landscape where you may spot some wild horses "Garranos". Access to the house has a steep cobble road from the gate below to the large yard above where you can park your car just a side of the main entrance of the house. Pets might be allowed, with previous agreement and preparation. Other things to note The Hazelnut House (Casa da Aveleira) If you consider to rent this house may be its time to taste its history. During the early 90’s, the renowned Oporto Ophthalmologist Alberto Marinho Leite and his wife Isabel Maria Ramos Pinto, both descending from Oporto wealthy families, decided to build a summer house, far from the city turmoil. The program was evident, one room for each one of the 4 sons, 1 room for the daughter and 1 suite for the couple, the swimming pool would operate as the star in the center of the house and the dining room would withstand with the vast family and visits. To pursuit the goal, the couple contracted a cousin “the Architect” Maria Luísa Marinho Leite Penha, wife of the 2011 Pritzker prize Eduardo Souto Moura. Maria Luísa never achieved her husband’s notoriety but, by the time of the house’s design she had two decades of experience within Alvaro Siza Vieira’s team (1992 Pritzker prize). Just to finish this Pritzker soup, Alvaro Siza Vieira is the brother in law of the Ophthalmologist. The signature project you are about to visit, was for many years the lively house where the fresh summers blessed the family. Whoever lives in this house experiences a sensation of distinctiveness … The light coming in through balanced wood frames, the elevated pinewood floor, the paintings, the miniature boat collection, the books, the ceramics, the huge granite table outside the house. At the surrounding forest you will walk through a diverse flora planted by Isabel Maria. May you decide to walk through the chestnuts, hazelnuts, Oaks and Pines or to pick up some kiwis, grapefruits or oranges. Before you go to sleep, make sure your afternoon’s walk was sufficient to gather rosemary and mint for your night tea. In a recent past, Isabel Maria passed away and the widower offered the house to the siblings. Nowadays, one week per year, each of the siblings enjoy the house with his/her respective families.
