You'll have your own covered porch, and use of the former Inn grounds. You'll also be able to use the Inn shared laundry room. Doug is usually around during the day maintaining the grounds. He is also available by phone, text and email. He now offers an affordable private service for his guests of any age or ability as an alternative to the typical ski area instruction options. Inspired by the 1968 Winter Olympics, Coach "K" taught himself to ski on a hilly backyard pasture in the Berkshires. Soon he was racing NASTAR under the lights at Mt. Tom. Doug began teaching in the 90's and is now approaching his 53rd year on skis & 20th as a Certified PSIA Instructor. Most recently as a USSA Alpine Coach and Official he has been teaching young racers of all age groups at Mount Snow Academy and Mt Greylock High School. During this time he has helped athletes obtain their potential coaching at the J4 Jr Olympics and Can-Ams, J3 ERS, U16 Eastern Championship and Am-Cans, and ultimately at the USSA U18 National Championships at Copper Mountain. The neighborhood is quite varied. First let's start with the the former Inn at Oak Hill B&B, an 1880's vintage Victorian that looms large next door and has been converted into three separate Suites also available on Airbnb. Cozy Cabin Six shares the back yard with the Inn. Next door is the former site of Cherry Court. This site holds an old ice cream parlor and several cabins now in process of renovation. Within walking distance down Rt 346 is the Pownal Post Office, the Fire station, the Soloman-Wright Public Library, several private homes, and the Hoosic River. Just a few hundred yards away is the American Legion (open to the public), and Winchester's deli across the road. During the day the area is active as you would suspect the center of any rural Vermont town would be along Route 7. Anybody going anywhere in town (food, gas, beverages, work) is likely to pass by during the day. You're likely to see vehicles of all types, old Joe on his tractor along with delivery trucks, cyclists, etc. As evening approaches everything gets pretty mellow and eventually things roll up to nothing at night. Magic! A great feature of this place is its location at the intersection of US Route 7 and Vermont Route 346. Both paved roads afford easy year round access (no mud season here!) to the area.
