Soapstone Woodland River Retreat

Private & Secluded! This famous river & writing retreat, built based on nature's Fibonacci Sequence, was designed by architect Will Martin. It's hosted writers such as Cheryl Strayed, author of "Wild". Located on 22 acres & privately situated on a beautiful river in the midst of a true PNW woodland. Enjoy your own private trails, salmon spawning in the fall & early winter, and the sounds of nature. Adults & kids will love the "writer's cube" perched at the top of the house. The PNW at its best! The space All through the residence there are large expanses of window that look out on the forest and creek, and skylights through which you can see the moon and stars at night. The main bedroom is on the ground floor. The twenty-foot vaulted ceiling has a skylight over the bed and two walls of windows looking out over Soapstone Creek and the forest. It is separated from the main structure by a covered breezeway. The main bedroom has 2 beds - one queen and one full. The main building has a kitchen and dining area, a living room with wood stove, bathroom with shower, and a washer/dryer. One entire section of the roof is a "sun roof" which makes the cabin light no matter the weather. A sleeping loft (which is the 2nd bedroom) with a built-in double bed facing the sun roof is the second level of the main building, with its own private upper deck. A staircase provides access to the sleeping loft. "The cube” is the third level, perched forty-feet above the main floor, and aligned exactly north, south, east west. It has a built-in desk and large round windows on all four sides looking down on the creek, forest, and meadow. A short built-in wooden ladder from the loft provides access. There is also a double futon in the main living area as well as a twin "Captain's bed". Linens are provided for the 2 queen beds and the full bed and we ask that you bring sleeping bags if you want to use the futon and Captain's Bed :-). There is also a smaller 2nd full bathroom located in the breezeway. Guests have access to 22 acres, which include walking trails, an outdoor pavilion in the meadow, the beautiful river with a trail right to the edge, a fire pit on the deck, and the famous "writer's cube" on top of the house. The house is in the "sun belt" in the coastal range and only 12 miles from the beach, so trips to the Oregon Coast are easy to coordinate! It is an hour and 20 minutes from downtown Portland. PETS: Dogs (50lbs and under) are allowed if guests are careful to pick up after them and don't allow them on the beds. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU BOOK IF YOU HAVE A PET! There is a $50 total fee 1-2 pets - no matter how long you stay, so not a per night fee :-). If you have more than 2 pets it's an additional $30/extra pet total for the length of your stay. This will be put in the "special offer" place. If you have a pet you think will be fine and is larger just ask. Thank you! They must stay off all furniture and beds so please bring a bed, blanket and old towel (for muddy paws) for them. This is a private retreat. For summertime I will give preference to week-long rentals. For weekends 3 nights will be given preference. If you have a baby (under 1 year old), no need to count her/him in your # of guests (though please let me know who will be staying when you book :-)). Otherwise please account for total # of guests when you book as well as mention any pets. Please do not inquire for super large groups (such as weddings). There is not enough parking and such for that kind of use at Soapstone. Other things to note - Please note that prices fluctuate depending on time of year. $25 per extra guest per night after 2 people. - No teenage bookings please. Thank you! - Summertime has a 3-night minimum unless there are 2 nights available between other stays - I do not offer refunds due to acts of nature (power outages, weather, heat waves, snowstorms, ice-storms, smoke from fires, etc). Please do let me know via the Airbnb app if there is an issue and I’ll work with you to help get things straightened out :-). If you’re concerned about weather or other issues we recommend trip insurance. - Please check out on time so our cleaners have time to clean. We apologize, but late checkouts cannot be accommodated. If not arranged beforehand a late checkout fee of $100 will be charged every half hour after your checkout time. - Only your registered guests are allowed on the property unless previously arranged with me. Absolutely no unauthorized overnight guests. If your guest # changes please let me know asap - I am happy to work with you as long as you don't exceed the maximum # of guests (over 6 guests is not allowed and a charge will be imposed for going over this #). Unannounced extra guests will be charged double the extra person fee and unannounced pets will be charged $100 per pet. Thank you for understanding! - Pets are allowed and we charge a pet fee (please let us know if you have a pet(s)). The pet fee doesn't cover if you don't pick up poop or if you let your pets on the furniture/beds and they get it muddy/covered in hair. Please bring a pet blanket/bed/towel for your pup or we have to charge an extra cleaning fee for the comforters, etc as they are expensive to clean. Thanks so much for understanding!
