This house is surrounded on three sides by corn/horse fields. Holiday Valley is less than a mile and a half away, making it super easy to drop off the first round of skiers and make it back for another cup of coffee while it’s hot. Seriously, the staff directing traffic at the main lodge will never know you’re still in your pajamas and crocs. Even more handy is the Dollar General across the street. While I may have been prematurely disgruntled about it’s initial building, it has become a lifesaver for me and my guests for all things convenient and left behind. They have everything… Eggs, milk, toothbrushes, extra gloves, oil for your car and Day Quil. No need to fight the traffic in town as you can walk to the store almost as fast as you can drive there. If you have members of your party Skiing or Boarding, I recommend the quick run to drop them off and pick them up when they’re done. Sometimes parking can be a drag at the Valley. There is a valet service at the Tamarack club entrance for those of you who want to go to John Harvard’s (at The Valley) for lunch or dinner. For those going into town, the 219 is a straight shot, about 2.3 miles to Main Street. Say hello to Peter at the Brewery for me. You can take the back way home via Mill Street (by the Wingate Hotel) Road which connects with BrewerCross Road and leads you straight to the house. Please drive safely! The house was the original Great Valley school house, built in the late 1800’s until it closed it’s doors for good in 1942. Much work has been done to make it the comfortable home you see today. Our local historian is working to get the property on a registry. More to come on that.... Also: There is a train that passes by usually daily, sometimes a second time and sometimes not at all. There really is no rhyme or reason to their schedule. Most people (family, guests, me) find it quaint and quite an event to run to the window to wave at the conductor, but it is certainly something to consider if you are not a fan of trains.
