The Orchard Retreat - escape to the country

Enjoy the tranquility of this charming country retreat, set in a little orchard. This self contained bungalow style cottage is just a stone’s throw away from the Kennet and Avon Canal and within easy reach of the pretty market town of Devizes. Lovingly converted in 2019, the Orchard Retreat offers high standard living accommodation for up to 4 people with all mod cons and a warm, welcoming feel – not least thanks to its beautiful décor and cosy underfloor heating throughout. The space The Orchard Retreat has a cosy bedroom with a comfortable double bed (please note; it is not king size) which boasts a pocket sprung mattress topped with memory foam – giving good levels of support and comfort. The sofa in the sitting room can easily be converted into a comfy double bed – thus giving the option of accommodating two further guests. The open plan kitchen & living room is a beautiful, airy, bright space with natural light streaming in by day through the fully glazed contemporary French style sliding patio doors which look out onto the patio and orchard and the two velux windows in the roof can be remotely controlled to allow just the right amount of fresh air into the room. The generously sized fully fitted kitchen with breakfast bar is well equipped and offers everything you may want for a self catering holiday: high quality Neff gas hob and oven with extraction unit over, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washing machine, Nespresso coffee maker complete with starter pods, kettle and toaster – and the breakfast bar can double as a laptop friendly workspace. The living room area seats 4 people and whether you just fancy looking out onto the orchard, relaxing over a glass of wine, reading a book or you like to switch off watching TV (a smart tv) or surfing the web on our free, unrestricted Wifi, you can be sure that nothing but possibly a few cheeky squirrels or some deer looking for the orchard fruit will disturb your peace. On sunny days you can sit outside on the patio or under the trees in the orchard. Beyond the orchard lies our paddock where you will see our free-range hens happily rooting about. No doubt they’ll pay you a visit too during your stay. A fully tiled, spacious, modern wetroom with power shower, low level WC and heated towel rail completes the Orchard Retreat perfectly and, of course, you will find soap, shampoo, nice soft towels and a hairdryer at your disposal to make your entire stay as enjoyable, easy and comfortable as possible. The Orchard Retreat has its own private entrance and 2 private parking spaces (more can be arranged on request). Guest access Guests access the property via a private drive past the main house. Parking spaces are private and well off the road. The property is accessed via a short gravelled path, arriving at the small patio. From there, the single storey building is entered via sliding double French doors straight into the open plan kitchen - which makes it wheelchair friendly. The orchard can be fully enjoyed by guests throughout their stay and its boundary to the back is made up of a mature hedge for privacy, however, it is not fenced off from the adjacent paddock which guests can glimpse through that opening in the hedge. There is access to the owners' decking area surrounding the pond and leading into the owners' garden via the side of the property. As this access is not fenced off it is highly likely that our two very friendly Labradors who are allowed to roam freely in the grounds will pay you a visit in the orchard at some point during your stay. Other things to note Guests with small children are advised that the main house has a pond which is easily accessible from the Orchard via a decking area to the side of the building as this is not fenced off. Therefore, we feel this property is not suitable for families with toddlers and small children who cannot swim. In addition, due to the nature of an orchard, it is not enclosed by fences which would constitute a clear and safe border for children. The surrounding fields, our paddock and main garden are easily accessed and some parents might find the Orchard Retreat unsuitable for younger children as they may be worried about them being able to roam freely and unrestricted which means they could ,potentially, unsupervised wonder off. There is a bigger, two bedroom cottage attached to the property which is also let to guests. While both properties overlook the same Orchard, each cottage has its own Orchard/garden area for their exclusive use and the individual patio areas are private and well screened.
