Description

A characterful old secluded, homely cottage in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Follow footpaths from the door in any direction for great walks and beautiful views, or stroll across a couple of fields to reach the spectacularly rugged North Pembrokeshire coast path. Llanwnda is a small, friendly hamlet on the Strumble Head peninsula, North Pembrokeshire. It’s a fantastic location for a tranquil retreat, a romantic getaway or a family adventure holiday. Our guests love it here! The space Our ethos is Home, not Hotel. The house is a cosy, comfortable upside down Welsh cottage, full of “Cwtch”. It probably needs a little updating but we quite like it just as it is, and for many of our visitors it’s a home from home. We believe in recycling, so most of our furnishings are recycled - except of course mattresses, pillows, cushions, towels and bedding, which are all bought in new. The surrounding views - rolling hills, the sea, and at night Strumble Head lighthouse and the moon and stars - can be gazed at from the four large windows in the upstairs open-plan kitchen and living room areas. It sometimes feels a bit like being up inside a treehouse! More tractors, horses and walkers than traffic pass by the house so it’s very peaceful, especially at night. The Llanwnda neighbourhood is friendly yet non intrusive. If you need anything, there is always someone around willing to help. The Welsh dresser is stacked with books and the bureau contains CDs, DVDs and games to play in case of wet weather. Llanwnda (near Goodwick) is an ideal spot for anyone who enjoys a bit of wild (wildlife and at times wild weather!) and wants a walking, cycling, swimming, surfing or activity holiday… or simply a tranquil retreat in secluded surroundings. One well behaved dog is welcome (for space reasons). Guest access Our guests have access to the whole cottage, gardens and surrounding areas, which are all right of way (follow the small yellow posts). Please follow the country code including being mindful of farm animals and wildlife, closing gates and taking any picnic rubbish home with you. If the booking is only for 1-2 people, the double and single rooms at the front of the house will be made up ready for you unless you request the king size in the back extension. Please note the front of the house is cosier in winter with night storage heaters and underfloor heating. The back extension is a Wi-Fi free zone. Other things to note The cottage feels very secluded, peaceful and Far from the Madding Crowd, yet it’s just a 20 minute walk or 5-10 minute drive (at a safe tractor pace!) down the big hill to the nearest shops in Goodwick village. These include a couple of pubs, a post office, hair dresser, garage (good for firefighters, local free-range milk and odd bits) and a Tesco Express. Drive a few minutes further into Fishguard for the coop (bigger food shop) and a good selection of cafes and pubs. Or stop off on your way at Haverfordwest for a wider selection of supplies. The cottage runs on eco electricity (economy 7 night storage heaters). We leave electric blankets on the beds in the winter as it can feel a bit chilly downstairs going to bed - the room warms up gradually overnight. Light the log burner in the living room for a cosy blaze. Please let us know if you can’t work it and we’ll message or call you with more detailed instructions. Logs and kindling are provided in baskets by the fire and there’s more in the green shed beside the cottage. We have a bit of an antiquated hot water system, so it’s not probably not the best place to come for a deep hot bath! However, we’ve just installed a kitchen mini boiler and the electric showers and dishwasher run independently. Small bath and hand towels are provided. Please bring your own beach towels.
