Description

Corry Cabin is a super get-away for anyone travelling around Scotland on the NC500 or on your own adventure looking for a unique and homely stay. Off-grid-ish, it has all the amenities you would need for day-to-day life including a sink, mains water due to licensing, mains electric, free wifi, a shower and toilet. Corry Meadow is a working croft, go on an adventure then come home to a cosy fire and a comfy bed. FROM MID NOVEMBER TO END MARCH we switch to winter mode because of frost. The space Corry Cabin is a log cabin, rough on the outside but with a warm and comfy welcome inside. We have decorated it with our own paintings and ornaments to give it a really homely feel. Set up for short or longer stays it has all the plates, cutlery, mugs and wine glasses you would need with a sink and a double ring gas burner for cooking meals on and heating water. There's also an electric kettle and a fridge. Off grid -ish, the water is now from mains due to licensing, the shower runs from this and a gas bottle, it has a composting toilet a short walk from the cabin, but we’ve found the solar panel isn’t quite enough juice for guests so we’ve installed mains electric and WiFi! FROM MID NOVEMBER TO THE END OF MARCH there is a high chance of frost and because of this we switch to winter mode in the cabins. Winter mode means that there will be a 10L jerry can of mains water in the cabin which can be refilled at the shed or down at my house. It will have a tap on it so that you can fill the stove top kettle/electric kettle for hot water. The gas fired shower is replaced with a deeply off grid practical solution -a garden sprayer that you fill with warm water and pump up with a handle, click into place to shut the pump and you have warm water to shower with! If you could empty it after use or take it into the hut the nozzles will remain frost free and unbroken ready for your next shower. It has a double bed and put up bed and a sofa that can be converted into a very comfy double bed or used as a single so it's suitable for up to four adults ! It isn't suitable for toddlers or younger due to the open fire and off-grid shower but older children are welcome if you think it would suit them. There is a dining table with four seats, a pile of board games and books or free unlimited wifi. Corry Cabin is at the top of our dirt track road in the centre of Corry Meadow. It has views over Rogart and the neighbouring Rhemusaig, which means hill of primroses. There are fantastic walks where you can see right to Loch Fleet or just adventure on the croft itself! Guest access There is an off-grid shower at the back of the cabin outside. Get the fire going inside then brace yourselves through the chill to get to it and enjoy an invigorating but hot wash! It runs from mains now to an instant water heater powered by gas - it has stood us through many winters and done a great job, as long as you don't mind the occasional spider. Our composting toilet is straight out of Shrek - but with less swamp. It has quite steep steps but is quite simple to use and not far from the cabin. The waste is collected in a barrel and you just need to put a handful of sawdust down - when it’s full we bury it on the croft for nature to recycle, so we would ask you don’t put anything non compostable in it. While staying in Corry Cabin you can also enjoy Corry Meadow itself! We own 62 acres of biodiverse and native woodlands, meadows and rivers. Go on an adventure to find our waterfall or hike up the crag, see if you can forage for chanterelle in the birch woods or fish for trout in the river Fleet. You can also help out with any tasks about the croft that Lucy or Maddy might be tackling - we're always up to something, whether it's dosing sheep, feeding cattle or building a new project. Other things to note We do allow dogs on the croft but insist that they are kept on a lead at all times. We have sheep that may be in-lamb or have lambs and don't want them to get spooked. Unfortunately we have had sheep and lambs killed by dogs. We also only allow dogs on the croft as long as you promise to pick up after them - dog poo can cause abortion in cattle/sheep and also it's just nasty! We also have chickens and with the best will in the world they can get out of their area and can be toddling about on the road as they are free range. Other than that we love our furry friends and will do all we can to provide for them.
