Guest information - from your Hosts Anthony and Belinda Reed. No 10 The Cable Station No 10 Welcome to Number 10 The Cable Station, one of, if not the most historic building in Waterville. There is plenty of information online about the tremendous challenges faced, as attempts were made to place and secure the first communication cables across the Atlantic from Newfoundland to Ireland. This was a world changer in terms of connectivity and communications and we feel very privileged to be able to own and preserve part of this ‘World History’. You will be staying in the Head Office of the whole operation. ( There is a copy of the book: ‘ A thread across ocean’ in the apartment for the avid reader) About us: Anthony is a retired Doctor and Belinda a retired Civil Celebrant. We first stumbled across this part of the world when we unexpectedly inherited a little cottage up in Glenmore on the other side of Loch Currane from the village. As you look out of the windows , you will see part of the range of mountains which frame the Valley. From the moment we arrived in Waterville and took the long winding road beside the lakes, we were absolutely smitten with the area and have been ever since. Having first of all renovated our little cottage, we then felt that we would like to be able to establish a second home where we could accommodate our families when they visit, hence the idea of a new project to renovate the Cable station apartment was born. You will probably get the sense of just how much love and care we have put into creating a modern and comfortable space , which we feel retains the authenticity and integrity of the building. Our friends and families have found the central location a perfect base from which to explore and we are now delighted to be able to extend the opportunity to a wider audience to enjoy and embrace Waterville and the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding areas. You will find that there is plenty of support here to ensure that you enjoy your stay. Our lovely friend and neighbour Philomena is always on hand for any queries and we are only a phone call away too. In the apartment is a document listing our favourite things to do. Meanwhile take a look at www.visitwaterville.ie which is an excellent site to give you a foretaste of this magical area. We hope to host you this year or in the future.
