Our newly built second home is located in Útey 2, by the Laugarvatn Lake. Útey 2 used to be an old farm and is around 720 acres (320 hectares) and have been in the family for generations. Most of the south side of Lake Laugarvatn is part of the land so you can have complete privacy. You can take a long walks in private, go paddling in our double seated canoe, relax in the hottub with tens of km. of unobstructive view, watch the birdlife and even try your luck fishing for trout. The space The house is around 60 sq. m. and has two bedrooms. The master bedroom has one queen size bed and the other bedroom 2 bunk beds, perfect for children but perfectly usable for adults. There are however extra mattresses available if needed as well as the couch in the living room. You can connect to the wifi or use our laptop. The house is our second home and therefore well equipped. We have a wood burning stove as well as a central heating. We have a freezer, fridge, oven, coffee making machine, toaster, dishwasher, bread making machine, waffle irons etc., as well as all necessary cutlery and crockery. On the verandah we have tables and chairs and a Barbecue. If you are a foodie you can do some serious cooking on site. The hot tub is our favorite place where you can soak in the hot water in the middle of the unspoilet nature. Large part of Laugarvatn is an Nature Reserve and it is teeming with all kinds of birdlife. After the hot tub you can take advantage of our Finnish Sauna and the Outside Shower. The hot tub as well as the house itself is heated by our own free flowing geothermal water from hotsprings located on the land. We keep the water in the tub at around 40° C (104°F) and the tub is on 24/7. Right across the lake is the Laugarvatn town where you can shop for groceries, go swimming or to the Spa or try one of the restaurants. If the weather is good you are around 10-15 minutes to paddle there in our Double Seated Canoe :-) The house is perfect as a base to visits all the sites in the South of Iceland. Thingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss are just 15-30 minutes away. You are only around an hour to drive to Reykjavík. The route to Reykjavik lies through the Unesco World Heritage Site at Thingvellir, so its quite enjoyable driving tour. Its therefore easy to use the house as a base even though you want to enjoy the capital.
