Description
Our character gite is a charming restored barn built in 1827, enjoying glorious elevated south-facing views over hillsides to a quaint village far below. The light-filled & spacious 90m2 gite has generous bedrooms, a large open plan living area and full kitchen. Stunning views from all rooms & the pool. Continental breakfast provisions included. A superb base for exploring and 'getting away from it all' in rural France, while remaining close to amazing sights and 5 mins from amenities. The space Our stone-walled barn is a typical example of rustic French architecture with modern comforts. Inside, it is characterful and comfortable, with all spacious rooms on one 90m2 level. Both bedrooms and the living room have glorious south-facing views across a wooded valley to the historic and picturesque town of Gagnac. Built near the site of a historic chateau, our home next door to the gite is built around the remains of a fortified tower estimated to date from the hundred years war. We are very happy to give you a tour! We also have a small farm of 1.6 ha which you are welcome to explore - a wilderness field and small orchard on the sloping field for small adventures, and the neighbours have two friendly donkeys who like to come and say hello at the fence. We are also happy to show you our permaculture gardens - feel free to pick fresh organic herbs for your cooking from the herb spiral! Inside your accommodation, there is a large entrance lobby leading through the galley kitchen to a light and airy open plan living / dining room. The kitchen is well-equipped with all equipment (cutlery, crockery, coffee pot, etc), with electric oven, gas hob, microwave and fridge. There is a spacious master bedroom, 2nd bedroom with a washbasin, and a shower room with separate w.c. In addition to the 5 sleeping places in the 2 bedrooms above, there is an extra single bed available for a 6th guest in the foyer room, which is a large single day bed. If you have need for a 7th guest, we can also supply a fold out single bed with a wire frame and mattress. If you need this, we will set this up as you prefer - either in one of the bedrooms or in one of the common areas (living room or entrance lobby). The option for a 7th guest is by arrangement only as it will only sit families with children, rather than 7 adults - enquire with us for exact details. Guest access Our guests have exclusive use of the gite, their own private terrace and full access to the grounds and gardens - collect some fresh herbs if you need any! Access is available to the laundry by arrangement (shared with the main house) which is located in the ground floor utility area. Other things to note POOL SEASON - The pool will be open from the 1st of May until the first week of October (although it may be cold at the edge of the season!). Please enquire at other times. AIR CONDITIONING - We have heaters and fans available for our guests, and along with this, to increase the comfort of our guests in extreme weather, we have recently installed 2 portable air conditioners to help make the air comfortable when it is very cold or very hot. They are brand new in Sept 2020, but quite noisy to operate (67dB - perhaps similar to a dishwasher or clothes dryer?) and require regular emptying of the water tray to work (sometimes hourly, depending on the humidity). They are effective at regulating the temperature somewhat, but are NOT hotel-quality air conditioning and we would personally only use them when the weather is uncomfortably hot or cold. They are not located in the bedrooms, but are near the doors to these rooms so will cool / warm these rooms along with the common areas. If having fuss-free, constant air-conditioning is important to you, please note these factors when making your decision to book. PETS - Your pet is welcome by prior arrangement. We just ask that you don't allow them on the furniture and that you clean up their waste in the gardens (bags and a bin are provided for this). Also, please note that we have a cat so dogs must be well-behaved with other animals. BREAKFAST - The breakfast we provide is in the form of provisions left in your gite for you to prepare, so there is no need to book it with us, it is always included for the number of guests and the nights you will stay. In addition to cooking basics such as salt/pepper and cooking oil, we normally provide the following items for your use: muesli, yoghurt, a selection of fruit, sliced bread, brioche, fruit juice, milk, tea, coffee, butter, jam / confiture. If you'd like something a little different from this list, whether for preferences or food intolerances, we can exchange some of these items for different breakfast things, as you choose (brioche could be exchanged for eggs, for example). Please let us know what you would like :)
