Robin’s Realm is a rare 18th-century thatched cottage set in peaceful, remote Welsh countryside near ancient woodland. Slate floors, an inglenook fireplace and oak throughout, with a hot tub under dark skies. Optional first-night meals are homegrown, vegan and restaurant-level. Close to beaches, castles and picturesque market towns, with excellent walking, cycling and mountain biking (Hafod Trails with uplifts nearby) and abundant birdlife. Strictly meat-free property. The space Robin’s Realm is a rare 18th-century thatched cottage tucked away in the Welsh countryside — quiet, remote and deeply peaceful, the kind of place people come to when they need to properly switch off. The space is strictly meat-free for guests, inside and out. Pets are welcome to have their usual food. If that works for you, you’ll feel very at home here. “WHAT A TREASURE!!! You’ll find slate floors and worktops, an inglenook fireplace and local oak throughout, alongside thick walls and original features. There’s a comfortable bed and cosy sofas, books and board games, and a hidden TV with a retro Nintendo tucked away for a bit of nostalgia if you fancy it. It’s somewhere you can settle in and stay put, whether that means reading, resting, or rediscovering older games. “It takes you back in time… a truly restorative place.” — Coralie Evenings by the fire In colder months, the fire becomes the centre of the cottage, bringing a steady, comforting warmth to the whole space. Arriving to a lit fire makes an immediate difference, and keeping it going creates that deep, cosy feeling people remember. Firewood is sourced from the land, with extra logs available for purchase if you want to settle in for longer. “Cosy evenings with the log burner… truly restful.” — Rachel Under the stars Outside, there’s a south-facing hot tub with wide countryside views. On clear nights, the dark skies and stillness make it something quite special — the sort of place where time slows down without you noticing. “Hot tub under the stars… absolutely perfect.” — James Birds, skies & quiet things This valley has a strong mix of habitats, which means a good diversity of birds throughout the year. Red kites are a common sight overhead, often circling above the fields, alongside buzzards riding the thermals. Around the cottage and nearby trees you’ll regularly hear and spot woodpeckers, along with a wide range of smaller birds. Nearby reserves such as RSPB Gwenffrwd-Dinas and Cors Caron (Tregaron Bog) are well worth visiting, though even staying put, birdsong is a constant part of the day. “A peaceful place to clear your mind.” — Ania On two wheels The surrounding rural roads are quiet, scenic and ideal for relaxed road cycling straight from the door. For mountain biking, Hafod Trails Bike Park (with uplift) is about 5 miles away, and the full trail networks at Abergorlech and Brechfa can be reached by bike. There’s also a hose available for washing bikes afterwards. “Beautiful location for walks and hikes.” — Kiyan Places to wander Nearest town: Lampeter (about 4 miles) Lampeter is an old-fashioned, picturesque market town with a relaxed pace and a strong food culture. You’ll find excellent spots like the Mulberry Bush wholefood shop and café, and Watson & Pratt’s organic supermarket, along with a farmers’ market twice a month and supermarkets open until 10pm. Within easy reach are Cardigan Bay beaches, coastal walks and hidden coves, stunning castles like Carreg Cennen and the amazing National Botanic Garden of Wales. In New Quay you can go on a boat trip to see dolphins and seals. It’s well worth shopping locally while you’re here — the quality is high and it supports small independent businesses. Robin has lived in the area all his life and is always happy to share recommendations you might otherwise miss. “It’s like staying with a thoughtful friend.” — George If you need to stay connected Starlink WiFi (typically around 40 Mbps) makes remote working possible here, even in such a remote setting. There’s also a hidden TV available for those who want a small hint of tech, though most people end up leaving it off. “Quiet, peaceful and very relaxing.” — Daniel First night suppers Meals are usually offered on the first night. These are vegan, organic and cooked to a restaurant level, often using homegrown or foraged ingredients with a focus on seasonality and originality. In early summer that might include things like lightly battered elderflower. It’s a highlight for many guests, especially those interested in good food and new ideas. Firewood is sourced from the land, water comes from a private spring, and electricity is from renewable sources. The wider area is known for its strong recycling culture and low-impact way of living. It’s simply part of how things are done here. “A truly restful and re-charging experience.” — Coralie A few useful things to know Access is via a long, uneven farm track (around half a mile, it’s slow going but manageable if you take it easy. Electric vehicles can be charged overnight for a fee. Supermarkets do deliver here, though many guests enjoy picking things up locally. Pets are welcome for a fee. In particular if you’re trying to book the same day, have any special requirements or want to book the whole place for a gathering. It’s all usually possible, just get in touch. MEAT-FREE POLICY The only real rule here is that this is a meat-free cottage. Please use this as a chance to try some different plant-based food. Ask if you need inspiration or are missing a key ingredient. There’s recipe books and the kitchen is a joy to cook in. You might appreciate the lambs all the more and hopefully leave feeling refreshed and healthy! I am now also offering home-cooked meals subject to availability - see note below for details. CONNECTIVITY Fast 80Mbps wifi is included in the cottage. There is also good 4G signal on EE, Three and Vodaphone although I recommend you try to switch off and enjoy the tranquility. RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT The cottage is powered by green energy and onsite solar panels. Please respect the environment and use the recycling and compost bins. Please leave any food which is still good - I don’t like food waste and someone else might appreciate the ice cream you left behind!! PRICE SEEMS A BIT HIGH? When comparing this cottage with other local options please remember that this is an 18th century cottage that has been lovingly restored from the ground up with no detail overlooked. The thatch needs replacing every 15yrs, the hot tub costs a fortune, it is very expensive to maintain and all the furniture is antique! The entire place is actually heavily subsidised by me and relies on honesty and lovely guests. Visit and you shall see what I mean - my day-trip recommendations alone are priceless. It sleeps up to eleven in style, is full of period features and has it’s own large hot tub and garden. The entire place is available for group bookings and is the perfect place for a celebration. It has eco-toilets and a shower, spring water and several flat places to camp. The field is south facing so gets the sun all day long. There is a wildlife pond, wildflowers and several ancient trees and at night you can see the Milky Way. If you want a break that is truly among breathtaking countryside - this is it! EARLY AND LATE CHECKOUT For an extra £50 on arrival you can usually have an early check-in (from 11am) and late check-out (up to 6pm depending on bookings) - this effectively gives you an extra day or two of exploring time and is highly recommended! DEDICATED BONFIRE SPACE Want to be merry around a bonfire with a spectacular view? We now have that option and will give you plenty of wood (and light it if you like!) for £20. A really magical way to see the stars and serenade your loved ones! SCRUMPTIOUS VEGAN MEALS If I’m on the premises and have the right ingredients (most of the time!!) then you can enjoy a mouth-watering vegan meal made just for you and delivered to your table. Ideal for that first night when you just want to relax. Meals are on a pay what you think is fair basis - and will be FAR better than most pub meals etc available locally! My breakfasts are particularly legendary.. A PLACE FOR RETREATS The entire place is perfect for small courses and retreats - particularly vegan cooking and foraging, yoga and wellness, music creation, wildlife walks, hidden gems and cycling trips.
