Description
Come stay in your own cozy, rustic mini apartment, a little over 25 minutes from the Portland suburbs, and about 45 minutes from downtown Portland. Our home sits on two wooded acres. You'll have a private deck, private bathroom, private entrance, and private living space. There is a queen bed in the bedroom and a futon/sofa in the living area that makes a twin-size bed. Check-in time is after 4 pm. Early check-in is possible, just contact us. No Smokers! One pet on approval, up to 45lbs. The space We repurposed our attached garage many years ago to use for a schoolroom (we are tutors) and then for an extra bedroom for when our adult children come to visit. Then we found out about Airbnb and opened this space up for guests. The apartment is on the other side of our laundry room, which you have access to as needed. You may hear us once in a while as we use the laundry room, but we do our best to be quiet and most folks never notice. We continue to make improvements every year because we have enjoyed meeting so many people from all over the world and sharing our space. In fact, some of my regular guests are surprised to see the improvements we make every few months. CONFUSED about conflicting ratings? We have noticed that some folks remark on how quiet our place is and others mention the noise. So here are more details on that: If you are coming from a bustling city, you will find it quiet here. If you are expecting total peace and quiet, you must be aware that the unit is attached to our main house. If you come to enjoy the surroundings and will only be in the unit in the evenings and mornings, you will find a LOT of quiet. But if you are looking for a place to stay indoors, quietly all day, you may be bothered by some sounds of our working household. You may see some older ratings where folks complained of hearing voices through the walls. We heard you and have invested in soundproofing the walls in so our recent guests never have that problem. It's very quiet now, folks! I follow Airbnb’s enhanced cleaning protocols, which was developed with expert guidance. Here are a few highlights: We sanitize high-touch surfaces, down to the doorknobs and lightswitches. We use cleaners and disinfectants approved by global health agencies and we wear masks and gloves while cleaning to help prevent cross-contamination. We clean each room using extensive cleaning checklists. We also provide extra cleaning supplies so you can clean as you stay. We comply with local laws, including any additional safety or cleaning guidelines. More than just a bedroom, this space includes a small living space where you can relax. The living space includes a sofa/futon that makes a twin-sized bed, though slightly shorter than standard size. Bedding for the futon is found in the bedroom dresser, and there is a three-inch memory foam topper for the futon under wall shelves. Also included is a Keurig coffee maker, a toaster, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and a small crockpot. The coffee corner area is stocked with all you need to make coffee or tea, and the new kitchenette has a hot plate and basic cooking utensils, ceramic dishes, and silverware. We also supply instant oatmeal and a selection of granola bars/other snack items. Take your meals inside at the table, or in nice weather, sit out on your private deck. We have hot water with excellent water pressure for your private bathroom, which is stocked with basic toiletries. We also have a terrific quality of fresh-tasting clean well water for drinking that is available straight from the tap. You might want to fill up your water bottles before you leave. We have installed an Amazon fire stick and you will have access to those channels as well as basic cable and Netflix. We have recently agreed to take pets. We ask that pets do not sit or lie on the furniture. Of course, cleaning up after your pet is a given. We do not accept aggressive breeds such as pit bulls, rottweilers or German Shepherds. We know that these breeds can be so very sweet and not necessarily aggressive, but unfortunately the insurance company sets the standards, not us. In the summer months, we have a window AC unit installed in the bedroom, and there is a fan as well. Our space does have some cosmetic quirks but we are always improving! Guest access The guest unit has a private entry with deck, bathroom, sitting room, kitchenette, and bedroom. Access to free, off-street parking and our shared laundry area. Other things to note If you are not a native Oregonian, please know that Oregon is lush and green, and to keep it that way, we get a lot of rain! We Oregonians have webbed feet and enjoy the pitter-patter of the rain on the roof while we are cozy inside. Springtime is often full of intermittent rain and sun, but summers are wonderful and often last until October, but not as sunny. Winters are generally wet, but mild, and snow rarely makes an appearance. Because we live in the forest under the large Douglas firs, it can seem rather dark in the rainy winter when the days are short and the sun sets between 4:00 and 5:30 on December evenings. I also have a sweet Australian shepherd who is always at my side and never out on her own but she will bark at you. She will REALLY bark at you, like she is really mean.. for 3 seconds and then she wants a scratch. If you are uncomfortable around dogs, please let us know. There is sometimes a bag of dog treats on the table if you wish to treat her. CELL PHONES: We are in a rural area and some cell phone providers may have spotty service here. Verizon works well, and it seems AT&T does well, too. Recently we upgraded to fiber optics and get good internet. My husband is a medical translator and often works from home so we count on good internet for his work, and it works well. If you want to use the washer: The washer is already stocked with automatic soap. If you do not wish to use Tide, or you prefer your own laundry soap, just let me know and I can show you to change the setting so you can use your own,
