Other things to note The construction of the town of Châtel-Guyon is different from that of other spas. It was not built around the springs in Gallo-Roman times, like the other Auvergne water towns, but around the hill of Calvary where the peasants sought protection. Peasant life was organized mainly around the vineyard. The town is located on the edge of one of the most fertile plains in France: the Limagne. From an altitude of 409 meters, it stretches along the Sardon River. Châtel-Guyon also marks the entrance to the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park and the Combrailles Massif.
