The Depot B & B: A Peaceful Retreat
Just minutes from campus, downtown, and the airport, The Depot is a historic home attached to 5 wooded acres, a lake, and a "big sky" view across the prairie for watching sunsets and night skies. Originally a train depot constructed in 1857, it has been fully modernized for contemporary living. However, we have taken great effort to preserve its rustic charms that Abraham Lincoln would have known during his circuit riding days before the Civil War. These include graffiti from 1917. You will have a private 2 bedroom home to yourself with a large, well equipped, country kitchen, two private decks, a fenced-in yard for pets, and a large courtyard in which to relax. Downstairs is a queen-sized bed, full bath, sitting area, closet, and a large work desk. The kitchen features a double-door fridge with ice-maker, a Jenn-Air cook-top, toaster, microwave, double-oven, and dishwasher. We provide beverages, bagels, fruits, cereals, snacks, coffee, tea, and other goodies. Upstairs is a spacious loft with a California-king bed, a 42" HDTV with 200 channels, and skylights. Extra twin beds are available upon request. The total living space is 1,122 square feet. The Depot is a discrete house, but is attached to a larger structure that is our home. Guests will have access to the entire Depot including two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room, and two fenced-in courtyards with outdoor seating. We love getting to know our guests; however, we know many folks just want a place to chill. Let us know if you would like for us to show you around the property, or to learn more about the historic Depot built in 1857 during Abraham Lincoln's tenure as a lawyer riding the 8th Judicial Circuit before the Civil War. Although only minutes from the University of Illinois, this property offers a rural setting with wide open spaces, a small lake and woods, and full-view country sunsets year-round. On a clear day, you can see eight miles across the Illinois prairie to the west. If you climb our three-story tower, you can have 180-degree views of the country-side around the Depot. We have plenty of free parking. This property is 10 to 15 minutes from the University of Illinois and downtown Champaign, with easy access to I-57.
