Description
Our property consists of two buildings made of handchipped stone: a house (for us) and a cottage/cabin (for you). The property relies on rainwater harvesting, and we have the world's most beautiful dry toilets! Free fibre Internet. Please note that the property is not suitable for children. The space We are Sarah (British), Morten (Danish) and our dogs, Ashna, Martha, Daisy and Shanmugi. The size of our property is 1.6 acres. It is unique in the sense that is has almost continuous tree cover of a few hundred old rosewood, almond, mango, jackfruit and orange trees. Under the canopy we grow coffee (Arabica, Robusta and Liberica), but our priority is to create a space where fauna and flora will prosper. Consequently, the property feels like a small forest, an oasis away from the concrete jungle and mono-crop plantations where most of the tourist accommodation is located. On the property, we have identified around 60 different bird species, and mammals like slender loris, wild boar, giant squirrel, porcupine and mouse deer. Guest access Our guest cottage is in its own private and quiet part of the property (1 acre) where no one else has access. Suitable for just one couple of humans. The main building, where we stay, is located 50 metres from the cottage. Laundry facilities are available in the main building. Other things to note The tariff excludes food. However, a maximum of two meals can be provided as follows: Breakfast: INR 500 (in total for any number of people). The Indhrivanam breakfast consists of freshly baked homemade bread with various homemade nut butters, relishes, jams and cashew cream cheese. Served in the guest cottage from 07:30 to 08:00. Lunch: Not available. Dinner: INR 400-800 (in total for any number of people). There is a light dinner version and a heavier one. The light dinners can be a Japanese noodles in a peanut sauce with salad, an Italian style spaghetti dish in a creamy tomato and basil sauce with salad, Indian rice and dal with raita, or Indian puloa/biryani with raita and papadam. The heavier dinner is something from the Indian cuisine, North or South, a fusion, Jain or a new invention consisting of rice, several curries and salad or Indian breads. We do not have a menu, but are happy to accommodate your requests whenever possible. Served in the guest cottage from 18:00 to 20:30. The food is vegan which, in an Indian context, means pure vegetarian without dairy products. For guests who prefer to eat out, there are around 100 restaurants located within 4 to 10 kilometres from Indhrivanam. If required, we are happy to recommend restaurants that suit your budget and taste. You are also welcome to bring back a takeaway/takeout/parcel to enjoy in the cottage. Other important stuff: 1: We have 8 rescue dogs living with us: Ashna (born in 2010) came from a cage as a puppy. Martha (estimated to be born in 2011) is a brown Labrador who, at 12 years old, showed up at our property one rainy day. The tri-pawd wonder dogs, Shanmugi and Daisy (both born in 2024), whom we adopted from the Humane Animal Society in Coimbatore in October 2024. Teddy (missing back leg), Malli (missing front leg), Honey (missing front leg), and Mishti (missing paw) arrived from the Humane Animal Society in December 2024. All the dogs are very friendly with up-to-date vaccinations. 2: Only the people mentioned at the time of booking will be allowed to enter and/or stay overnight on the property. 3: We do not have facilities for drivers. This means that parking in the daytime is fine, but not overnight. There are no sleeping facilities, no toilet facilities, no showering facilities, no car wash, no food, and no coffee, tea or drinking water for drivers. We are perfectly friendly, but have no interest in dealing with drivers. So if you are travelling with a driver, you are responsible for his welfare while you are staying at our place. There are places in Kumily where drivers can get reasonably cheap hotel rooms. We do highly recommend self-driving; it is quite easy in Kerala, but does require an Indian or International driving permit.
