My husband and I visited Mannar Donkey Clinic and Education Centre in January 2019. We were greet by a team of friendly and incredibly dedicated staff who showed us around the sanctuary and explained how the donkeys came to be there and what was happening with their treatments. They also explained how the staff are working with the local community to make life better for these donkeys that live on the the streets. We were able to interact with some of donkeys which included feeding and brushing them. Thaleimannar is the closest point to India. Inbetween Thaleimannar and Danushkoddi point in India make the Adam's bridge. Mannar is surrounded by Indian ocean. Most of the people are Muslims and hindus. Mosques and Hindu Kovils can be seen in this island. That Mannar island and the main Sri lankan land is connected with a bridge and it has the main bus route too. Therefore it is easy to get Mannar by bus directly from Colombo. Mannar is connected with bus routes and local vehicles can be found in this area in a moderate level. And in the night time the buses are other transportation modes will be lesser than the main cities. Therefore it is better to get done your all works before the dusk. Inform the hosts to find vehicles when you need, tuk tuks or motor cycles can be found. This is a MUST visit location if you are ever visiting Mannar. The donkeys in Mannar are one of the most notable features in this area.However, due to their abundance, they are often neglected and rejected by the locals. The donkey clinic is a Rehabilitation center for injured and problematic donkeys and also a petting zoo/education center for anyone who likes to come here. This will be a really different experience for you if you are willing to stay here. Because this is the world first center dedicated for wild donkeys, and if you are living in it please tolerate the settings, try not to harm donkeys and not get harmed. Be friendly to every one cause this is the degrading nature that we need to preserve for future.
