We have a comfortable nearly 100-year-old bungalow home in a safe, quiet neighborhood near Washburn U., hospitals, the Capitol, convention center, downtown, the library & I-70. Your bedroom is on the first floor with a private bathroom. We can provide a pack-n-play for an infant or toddler. Our home is mostly ADA accessible, with rear parking, a lighted ADA ramp to the house, and wide doors for the entrance to the house and the bedroom. There is a 30 amp RV/EV outlet at the rear parking space. Accessibility Notes: The bathroom is small and will not accommodate a wheelchair, but small enough to navigate, with four grab bars, from the entrance. Our daughter was wheelchair bound and navigated the bathroom with one grab bar by the door. We've added three additional bars There is also a transfer shower chair available if requested. We say that the room is mostly accessible because a wheelchair cannot navigate completely around the bed. We STRONGLY urge you to contact us if you use a wheelchair, so we can discuss your needs and accommodate you in the best way possible. The Space: Our home is tranquil, and people feel comfortable here. The queen-sized bed and bedding are very high quality. Our WiFi is AT&T fiber and runs about 200+ Mbps. The room has a refrigerator and a microwave. The television is a smart TV with internet access, Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix. There is a bedside power station with three A/C outlets and four USB ports. Your bedroom door has a deadbolt with a key. The room is on the southeast corner of the house. It gets the morning light. There are blackout curtains should you wish to control the sunlight. While the room is on the central HVAC system, there is an additional air conditioner and heater that you may use to set the room temperature as you like. A folding laptop table is in the room for your use. Guest Access: There is a digital lock on the front door. Your code will be the last four digits of your cell phone number. You will enjoy complete privacy in your room and free access to the public areas of the home to meet your needs. Should you use the rear handicap parking and the ramp, your code will work on the side door, also. Other Things to Note: Both of us have been vaccinated for Covid-19. We have a very energetic 14-year-old male peekapoo. Hercules weighs about 10 pounds and is always starved for attention. He rarely barks in the house. He is good with children. We watch our 4-year-old grandson Wednesdays through Fridays from 7 am to 5 pm, so our house is pretty busy on those days, but not overly loud. The front porch is set up as a playground, but our large rear deck is available should you wish for some quiet outdoor time. We are only two blocks from Boswell Park, which has a nice playground. We maintain a non-smoking home, for health reasons. You will have access to on-street parking or a handicapped off-street parking spot if required. Our spacious deck is available for your use. Coffee service is available in your room. Bobbi and I may be present when you check-in. Your door code is the last 4 digits of your cell phone number. We are always available via text and phone for questions and emergencies. We do live on-premises. Our neighborhood, Elmhurst, is one of the oldest in Topeka. Established in the early 1900s, architecturally, Elmhurst is homogeneous. Its houses reflect middle-class tastes from the 1920s. The neighborhood, stylistically, consists of larger 2 ½ story houses. Whether the front gable, side gable, hip roof (the American Foursquare type) or 1 ½-story version, all are classified by the authoritative Field Guide to American House as the Prairie or Craftsman style. Most of the residences date from the late ‘teens or early 1920s and are in the popular bungalow design or the unique Topeka Airplane Bungalow type. Here and there other styles, notably Tudor and Dutch Colonial, can be identified. The neighborhood blends the different architectural styles well, whether a block of Foursquares or Airplane Bungalows. At least ten residences appeared in catalogs of Topeka’s L.F. Garlinghouse Co., either built from a catalog design or they were the inspiration for one. Our home is a unique Garlinghouse airplane bungalow design; one of a kind, as far as we know. Our neighborhood has new sidewalks and bus routes that are on either end of our block. We are very centrally located.
