The Butterfly, Stonewall Colorado

30 day minimum. 30 day rate is 1980. Built in 1905, the "Butterfly" is cozy and authentically charming. Two bedrooms down and four twin beds up. One bath. A massive stone fireplace dominates the living room. Large windows allow great views of ponderosa pine and visiting deer. Modernization in the 50s to add kitchen and bath facilities included the enclosure of a porch with its sloped floor intact. Steep, narrow stairs are also typical of the era. The space The comfortable small space was built in the shadow of the Stone Wall, a dramatic section of the Dakota Wall which towers over Hwy 12 as it turns north through the pass headed to Cuchara. The morning sun on the wall is a treat that is not to be missed and we provide two coffee makers to prove the point. The wall also adds a cool view from the shower (before the windows fog). Many deer and the occasional bear are regular visitors to the area and can be easily seen through the large windows. Due to burn ban, there is no outdoor grill. Guest access The cabin is only 850 feet on the ground floor so you get access to all of it! Other things to note Most visitors to the area look forward to preparing their own meals and understand that some driving is required to dine out. However, the Stonewall Shopping Bag has a solid cafe and good pizza is served at Middlefork Resort, both of which are easy walks. No trip along Hwy 12 is complete without a visit to the Dog Bar, half an hour away in Cuchara. If you are looking for golf, your options are currently limited to the hidden jewel that is the Trinidad municipal 9-hole course. The Shopping Bag also sells required hunting, fishing licenses and has both a convenience and liquor store. Hours of operation may vary.
