Description

What we call “Pedrera” is an old rural house built in 1808, in the hinterland of Scopello. The space The interior of the house is developed on two floors. The ground floor opens with a big space very tall, which is a dining room with kitchen. This room leads to a small space from which one can go to the bathroom, to the small bedroom and to a little storage room. To get to the master bedroom upstairs there is a stair placed in the first room mentioned. The house is well furnished, simply and functionally to make it very cozy; the furnitures allow to live comfortably in the old sicilian style. Guest access What we call “Pink Pedrera” is an old rural house built in 1808, in the hinterland of Castellammare del Golfo city. This name is a little tribute to the great catalan architect Antoni Gaudì. It is also an appropriate name thanks to the white local stone, while the beautiful pale pink color of the sturdy plaster made by a passionate craftsman who took care of the house for many years (Mastro Pietrino), goes back to the chromatic tradition of the old houses of this territory. How do you get in the area … You can take the highway A29 from Palermo Airport or from Trapani-Birgi Airport . A simplified description of the path: 1. From the highway A29 take the exit for Castellammare del Golfo. 2. Get through Castellammare del Golfo and drive along the road SS 187. Take the first crossroad to Scopello ( it will be at your right). 3. Get through the Guidaloca beach and after the last turn go on following the sign “MINIGOLF” (Grotticelli). 4. At the end of Grotticelli road (after 5 km about) turn left and drive along the road until the crossroad which indicates “Ristorante Baida”. 5. From there we will guide you at home. 6. Together, after 700 meters, we will arrive at Pink Pedrera. Other things to note Behind the Pink Pedrera there is a great ancient carob tree very shadowy, under which it's possible to sit on several stone-seats and to play with the swing. On the carob we have rebuilt a wooden platform (Carob's House) , which can be used by adults and children for relaxation and fun. Close to the carob tree there is a small “theatre” and a platform on which is possible to look at the stars during the wonderful summer nights. The theatre is a perfect place where you can look a film in the night, using the back side wall of the Pedrera like a “screen” on which you can project it, with a pleasant landscape background ..! This part around the Pedrera looks at north and east, so towards Mount Sparacio and its wild slopes, and the little but deep valley next to the Pedrera, where a creek flows only in winter. The carob tree is one of many trees that frames the Pink Pedrera. There are also olive trees, almond trees, pomegranates, cypress, and a lot of Mediterranean tipical shrubs and plants. Looking east you can see the Gulf of Castellammare, and closer the surroundings of Guidaloca bay; looking towards south & west you can see the Fraginesi valley, the Mount Inici (Pizzo delle Niviere) and a part of the Scorace wood. The Pedrera Rosa is a very quiet place. Here you can't hear any noise of cars: the closest road is one kilometer away, or more. In the surroundings exist a few houses, but there are some little restaurants and little shops, where you can buy and eat several typical local foods. You can better taste these foods using the pleasant barbecue, placed in the eastern front of the Pedrera. In the building restoration of the house we used environmentally friendly materials; its maintenance is done minimizing the use of substances harmful to the local environment and in general, over time. We ask our guests to reduce, separate and dispose of carefully - and according to the rules of the local public - the waste they produce during their stay.
