The cottage is south facing, with gorgeous bright, sunny spaces. Pine floors throughout. This beautiful 4-season cottage comfortably sleeps 8 adults in 4 queen beds in 3 bedrooms. It's a one hour and 15 minute drive from downtown Ottawa. Open all year (but you need a 4-wheel drive vehicle in winter). Come and have a relaxing getaway from the city. There are lots of outdoor spaces where you can chill out: a big deck and long wood tables for al fresco dining, an upper deck overlooking the lake for your morning coffee or yoga practice, hammocks to relax and nap in, a big dock with Adirondack chairs and an umbrella for shade for spending lazy days right by the lake. We have a canoe and kayaks for you to have fun and explore the lakes. Mud Lake is right in front of the cottage, and off to the right side, following a stream, you can access Grey's Lake, a bigger lake with a gorgeous green colour. The lakes are both delightful in very different ways. The little one right in front of the cottage is spring fed. It's small so there are hardly any motor boats on it. You can jump off the dock and swim right across or all the way around. You can't wade into the lake (unless you love seaweed and very mushy sand! There are two streams to explore nearby too. It's a magical place! We have a gibbon line and outdoor games like bocce and badminton. THE INSIDE SPACE The Bella Vista is a beautiful, clean 3-bedroom cottage with a den that can comfortably accommodate 8 adults. SLEEPING There are 3 bedrooms--two cozy ones with queen beds off the main living-dining area, and one bigger bedroom with two queen-size beds, a desk, and lots of toys and kids' books. Each bed is made up with fresh linens, sheets, duvet, duvet covers, pillows and pillowcases. Extra linens are stored in far end of the closet of the big bedroom. KITCHEN The kitchen is fully equipped for you to make gourmet meals if you want. Our coffee maker is an Italian "moka" or stovetop espresso. We also have a Nespresso machine and milk frother. We will leave you a few pods, but you can bring some of your own too. There's a dishwasher and lots of counter space to make meals together. The water comes from a sandpoint well. We have it tested now and then and have never had a problem with it, but if you feel more comfortable, you should bring up your own bottled water. You'll find basics like olive oil, salt, pepper, vinegar, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, dish soap, dishwasher tabs, cleaning supplies... If there's something you need, let us know and we'll let you know if we have it or not. BATHROOMS The cottage has two full bathrooms in the summer (only one in late Fall and Winter). The 4-season bathroom has a bathtub and shower, a toilet, and a sink and vanity. The summer bathroom, as we call it, has a sink and vanity, toilet, and shower. We offer biodegradable shampoo and conditioner, hand soap, and all the linens you'll need. We are on septic system at the cottage. Only toilet paper can go down the toilets (menstrual products, tissues, wipes and anything else go in the bins beside the toilets). LIVING/DINING ROOM The main room of the cottage is an open concept living-dining room area. We have a beautiful long pine table that seats 8-10. Get ready to enjoy some lovely, long family and friend dinners or board game marathons. Enjoy the "bella vista" (beautiful view!) from the beautiful orange Italian sectional couch. You might never want to get up. There's a wood stove in the living room (please let us know if you don't know how to use it), a stereo with CDs, a cabinet full of board games, puzzles, bird watching books, binoculars. DEN There's another comfy sectional couch in here. Get cozy and watch one of the many DVDs we've collected over the years. Or curl up with one of the many books... BASEMENT The semi-finished basement has a ping pong table and foosball table for hours and hours of fun on rainy days. Also more books! LAUNDRY There is a washer and dryer. Please only use one scoop of the powder provided. There's also a laundry line outside. Please do use this and not the dryer on sunny days. SCREENED-IN PORCH There's a screened-in porch off the kitchen with a round table and chairs (which can seat maybe 5-6) in case it's raining and you want to have meals in an airier space. There's also a storage/tool/garbage room off the porch. BBQ & OUTDOOR FIRE PIT The BBQ is on the large deck outside. There's usually an extra propane tank, but if you run out, you can get a refill at Bretzlaff's store in Ladysmith (a 15-minute drive away). There is a fire pit out by the laundry line. This is the only place where you can have a fire outside and you need to check the fire ban regulations in place during your stay. If there is a fire ban or warning, you CANNOT have a fire. We will try to let you know about this before your stay, but please be responsible for this as well. If you do end up having a fire, please put it out entirely before going back inside/to bed. There's firewood in the wood shed just outside the cottage. COMPOST There is a compost bin behind the woodshed, near the laundry line. Please only put fresh vegetable waste in here--no meat, oil, butter, etc. as this will attract animals. IMPORTANT TO NOTE Parties are not allowed. Pets are allowed on a case by case basis (and only if furniture is covered, paws are wiped before coming inside, etc.) . This is our family cottage, and we love it, and hope that our guests will love and take care of it like we do. There's wifi, but cell phone reception is somewhat hit and miss. It seems to depend on the network you're on and the day. The stairs down to the lake are somewhat steep--so you need to be able to negotiate those. We're on a septic system, so nothing goes in the toilets except toilet paper and we try to use only biodegradable products (which we provide). There's no smoking at all. WINTERTIME There is baseboard heating in the living room, den and main bathroom to help the wood stove out. You'll likely need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get in when there's a chance of snow because there is a steep hill to navigate. You will have access to the whole space. We can't control the weather, so there are no refunds or cancellations for poor weather during your stay. We hope you'll find lots to keep you occupied if you do get some bad weather. The cottage is in the country and there are frequent power outages. We can't control this either, so there are no refunds or cancellations if this affects your stay. We will do our best to keep you informed on what's going on and when power is expected to come back. You will probably see wildlife during your stay--be respectful and safe please.
