Description

This coastal rural fishing community on the busy Schoodic National Scenic Byway is where you will find our historic old world getaway, located 28 miles from Acadia/Bar Harbor & 13 miles from Acadia at Schoodic. If you love history, the sea & remote places, the carriage house where a sea captain worked is for you. The unique space will remind you of a ship's cabin in an old sailing vessel. Step back in time to experience a simple & quirky two story space with vintage furnishings & plenty of room. The space *Space is not suitable for infants or young children.* Walk up the granite steps and across the patio to easy self-entry, open the door, and feel drawn back in time in the rustic living area with vintage furniture, wrought iron chandeliers, and a stoic mantle with wall sconces. The roomy first floor includes a boat galley kitchenette and half bath on the first floor with a staircase to the bedrooms and bath on the second floor. The Captain's study on the second floor has been converted to a spacious bedroom with built-in shelves and cabinets with traces of the captain throughout. For the history buffs, it is a treat to stay in the same room that he used for his private office and study while he lived here. The triple windows on the front facing side of the bedroom, likely where his desk was facing, offer partial views of Frenchman Bay and Cadillac Mountain. Between the captain's bedroom with a queen bed and the private back bedroom with a full bed you cross the open pass-through space with a twin bed on one side and full private bathroom on the other side. Guest access *The space is not suitable for infants/young children* Guests have private use of 850 square feet (two floors) in what was once the carriage house located adjacent to the main part of the house. This personal space includes the living/dining area, galley kitchenette with half bath on the first floor; the second floor has the large captain's bedroom, a second smaller bedroom, and a bed in the open pass-through space in the center beside the full bath. The front patio has partial views of Frenchman Bay. You and other house guests have access to the utility room where you will find the washer/dryer (first come first served) and an additional refrigerator if needed. Other things to note The Captain's Quarters is at the front of the carriage house with private access with all the comfort & amenities to accommodate longer stays. The twin bed at the top of the stairs is in an open pass-through area located between the captain's bedroom, a second bedroom, and the full bathroom. There is no central heating. When needed, there is an efficient Rennai propane heater on the first floor and two space heaters for the second floor. We provide two other separate guest areas in our home, each with its own private entry and space. One is upstairs in the main section of the house and the other is around back of the carriage house. It's a big place, so guests often come and go without knowing anyone else is staying here! The space is for adults and teens but not safe nor equipped for infants or young children. Quiet hours from 10pm-7am.
