Description

Beautiful south-facing house gorgeous garden. Stunning views of the Brecon Beacons & Black Mountains. Charm of an old cottage, luxuries of a new-build: under-floor heating; new bathrooms; floor to ceiling windows look out onto the Black Mountains. Sunrise or sunset from nearly every window. In a quiet lane 8 mins from lovely sleepy Kington, amazing food shops, 15 mins from Hay-on-Wye & 20 mins from Hereford. Surrounded by nature reserves within 15 min walk, a dingle, a meadow and marsh. Heaven. The space The house is a much loved home and a very peaceful space. The downstairs bedroom has a comfortable double sofa bed and so can be a double room or kept as reading/study/yoga space. It looks out into the garden and has a bathroom with shower next door. Upstairs there is a king bedroom and two double rooms (both belong to teenagers so be prepared for fairy lights and teenage-decor!) - all with beautiful views of the hills and South facing. The upstairs bathroom has a big bath and shower and looks over the hills as well. Downstairs is open plan with two living spaces, a cosy snug with a log burner and a sunny sitting room with an open fire. And the large light-filled kitchen is the hub of the house. You can watch the weather and the birds all day long from most of these spaces. We will prepare the bedrooms you need and close off the other ones. We are blessed with stunning night skies, owls, woodpeckers, a hedgehog, frogs and abundant garden birds and the odd pet pheasant. The house sits in a quiet lane and is 30 minutes from Hereford, 20 minutes from Hay-on-Wye and 10 minutes from the lovely market town of Kington. The garden is abundant in flowers, vegetables, mature trees and lawn to play on. Children love to run wild here.... Guest access The house is set in half an acre of beautiful garden ... with home-grown veg and hens. The terrace looks out on to the hills. There is a tree house, trampoline and goals for children. Many children have run wild here safely but it is rough around the edges - small children need supervising. The tree house is for older children or adults accompanying smaller ones. You can simply take away the ladder or rope ladder though so children can't access it if you are concerned. It is also lovely for a cup of tea and watching the sunrise! Our children and their friends spend hours using the whole garden but it would not pass health and safety testing! Badminton net & croquet. As it is our family home there is pretty much everything you could possibly need in the house! We have a very relaxed friendly cat called Pumpkin known for lowering blood pressure. We will be around to feed him or if we are away you can choose to feed him yourself or have our neighbour pop round. Ditto hens! If you have a problem with the cat we can try our best to keep him in the cabin and out of the house if we are here so just ask us. Please do not take him home with you, you will be tempted :-). We might have guinea pigs wild in the garden. Disclaimer: Use play equipment & tree house at your own risk. Other things to note The house is perfectly situated as it is an easy drive from Hereford on the main road and yet is tucked away and secluded - a perfect retreat. There is lovely walking all around and our nearest village, Eardisley has a gorgeous pub, cafe and shop and post office and bookshop. Our nearest town (tiny!) Kington has wonderful local independent organic veg shop, deli, butcher as well as Friday's market with delicious homemade chocolates, cakes, face creams, Alex Gooch's famous bread and beautiful arts and crafts. Kington is famous for its walking.. Hergest Ridge and Offa's Dyke attract many visitors every year and yet you can easily go for a walk and not see a soul. Herefordshire is also known for its artists and gardens and there are open art and open gardens throughout the year. Hay-on-Wye is famous for its book festival and is abundant in cafes, restaurants, cinema and bookshops. Despite being nestled deep in the countryside there is always a film or a concert or some live music to find within half an hour from the house.
