This is a unique property, hidden away in the rainforest, 40 minutes south of Cairns, adjoining the Wooroonooran National Park, home of the magnificent Boulders and Josephine Falls. There is no need to go all the way to Cape Tribulation with the crowds, when you can experience the true Wet Tropics, close to Cairns and staying in luxury accommodation. Wild Ginger is a boutique property, with the highest quality linen, facilities, including high speed internet. Your host, Naomi, lives on the property in another house which is hidden in the forest, but sometimes pops into the adjoining granny flat. This has a private access. She is often away and is very unobtrusive, respecting your privacy at all times, but available for advice or assistance at anytime. This 50 acres of untouched rainforest, seamlessly shares the boundary of a huge national park, which encompasses Mt Bellenden Ker and its catchment area. The creek flowing past the house and the larger one a short walk away, have the purest water on Earth. From late October through to April, the beaches in North Queensland are off limits due to deadly box jellyfish and are intolerably hot as well. This is when Wild Ginger is at its finest, the coolness of the lush jungle and the swimming holes at a perfect temperature for swimming all day! The house is fully airconditioned and and has two large queen bedrooms. There is a mezzanine bedroom with a queen size inner spring mattress, which has a ladder staircase and a low ceiling. Alternatively a mattress or 2 can be put on the floor of the bigger bedroom. The house is surrounded by verandas overlooking tropical gardens and is fully screened. There are two large bedrooms with queen size beds and block out curtains, bathroom with antique claw-foot bath, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and lounge area with reclining sofa and chair, 55 inch smart TV with Netflix, Apple, Prime, Paramount Plus and wireless internet. Play your music via the wireless state of the art Yamaha amp and sound system. There is a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, all modern appliances and pod coffee machine with coffee pods and a wide variety of twining teas provided. Outside there is a Weber Q barbecue. Bi-fold doors open up the kitchen to the garden. The veranda overlooks a crystal clear creek with a natural swimming hole close to the house where you can hand feed the tame jungle perch and tortoise. Walk the jungle track to the larger second creek on the property and explore the ancient waterfalls and swimming holes and bathe under cascades and natural spas. Ancient figs full of orchids, ferns and birds nest ferns spread their twisting buttress roots around the mossy boulders. Platypus live in the clear pools along with forest dragons and vibrant butterflies while fluorescent dragonflies skim the dancing water. You will have a vast area of crocodile free, completely private streams and jungle all to yourself. If you are fit and the weather is fine you can rock hop for hours up the creek into a truly untouched paradise which is inaccessible to anyone else. On a clear night you might like to build a bonfire on the creek bank and cook food over the coals while enjoying the forest at night. The charming little town of Babinda is nearby where a supermarket, bakery, butcher, newsagent, craft shop, movie theater, hospital, doctor, pharmacy, two pubs, cafes and restaurants are available. A few minutes down the road is the Bellenden Ker boat ramp. Bring your own boat or hire one locally and explore the wild stretches of the twin rivers, (The Mulgrave and The Russell) and visit the small beach community of Russell Heads. Take a day trip on Frankland Island Cruises, up the jungle clad river to an uninhabited tropical Island where you can swim from a white sandy beach and snorkel the fantastic coral fringing reef, admire the fish and cavort with giant turtles. Lunch is provided and all gear. Go on a Snapping Tours trip down the river at Innisfail and see crocodiles. Visit the Mamu Canopy Walk, skydive at Innisfail or go white water rafting. You are an hour closer than Cairns to the rafting location on the Tully River. There are too many nearby attractions to mention, including Behana Gorge, The Boulders, Josephine Falls, The Sugar Museum, Paronella Park and and so much more! It is a twenty minute drive to both the Gillies and the Palmerston Highway making Wild Ginger a great base to explore the Atherton Tablelands. Beautiful Mission Beach is an hour's drive away. Bramston Beach is the closest beach, with picturesque Etty Bay a little further south where you are certain to see the resident cassowaries. Etty Bay is close to the nearest large town which is the green and pretty Innisfail in its river setting. Most of the natural wonders for which North Queensland is famous, are in the southern sector of the Cairns region; yet there is very little accommodation available in the area. Wild Ginger Rainforest Retreat is truly a hidden paradise where you can sleep with nothing but the music of the creek and the forest and be immersed in nature. If you would like to have the place entirely to yourself, at an extra charge of $60 a night, you can have the key to the gate and complete privacy.
