Elegant and stylish one bedroom apartment in a 1920's classic building, recently enhanced with unique custom art features. Cheerful, colorful interior with white plantation shutters. The space Interesting architecture. An easy short walk to the UC Cal campus. Trees are outside and a small east facing garden. The photos show the custom design work created recently by our crew. Art work and furnishings (carefully chosen) complement the interior design. Enjoy! The space Colorful classic architecture, on a tree-lined Elmwood street, one block to College Avenue. Our manager Binyam lives nearby and is a licensed electrician. so if you discover lots of switches and indirect dramatic lighting you know who to thank. Reliable "Rinnai" gas heaters for your comfort. The 1 BR apartment has a somewhat unusual layout - access to the kitchen and bathroom is via the bedroom...it's not a problem unless you have visitors who wouldn't normally enter the bedroom. Guest access Laundry machines right outside rear door. Off-street parking space is usually available.. Internet at the higher speed of 50 megs / second. Comcast Cable TV with 156 channels. Interaction with guests We respect your privacy, but are available to answer any questions or requests during your stay. We will do our best to make sure you have a comfortable stay! Other things to note Our rates are all-inclusive - all utilities (including Internet/wi-fi). Fully furnished and equipped. Minimum stay 14 days. The Neighborhood The apartment is in the Elmwood residential district, 2 blocks from Telegraph Avenue, 1 block from College Avenue, very close to public transport. The location has a walk score of 94 which classifies it as a “Walker’s Paradise”! Leave your car behind! You can rent a car on an as-needed basis from Zipcar or City Car Share locations close by. It’s 5-10 minutes’ walk from numerous ethnic and specialty restaurants (Italian, Indian, Thai, Ethiopian, French, Japanese, burgers, pizza, Swiss-style fondue, Chinese, Korean barbecue, a Subway), coffee houses, bookstores, vintage clothing stores, music stores, and student hangouts. A large CVS pharmacy is 2 blocks away, and Whole Foods is 5 minutes by car or a 15 minute walk (6-1/2 blocks). Access: There are buses on College Avenue (1 block away) to downtown Berkeley, the 3 nearby BART stations (Bay Area Rapid Transit system), Oakland and San Francisco. The Claremont Hotel & Conference Center is just over a mile away (20 min walk). There is freeway access either at Telegraph Avenue & 55th Street (about 2 miles) or Ashby Avenue (about 3 miles) where you can drive to San Francisco, Oakland, Marin County & the Golden Gate Bridge, Napa Valley, and Lake Tahoe. Twenty minutes driving (outside rush hours!) will take you to San Francisco across the Bay Bridge. If you take BART from any of the 3 nearby stations, it’s about a 20 minute ride to SF. Pricing •Our rates are all-inclusive. We pay the Berkeley business license tax, but it is not charged to you. •The accommodation charge includes cleaning and stocking with essential supplies before you move in. There is no separate cleaning fee. The fine print (otherwise known as house rules): • Minimum stay 14 days. • If you stay between 14 and 30 days, you will need to pay a 12% transient accommodation tax required by the City of Berkeley. Airbnb will collect that from you when you book. •No smoking of any kind in the apartment or anywhere else in the building - the hallways, stairways, and the grounds! It's against the law: the City of Berkeley prohibits smoking anywhere in multi-unit buildings. We also prohibit vaping (e-cigarettes) because it creates many of the same issues as second-hand cigarette smoke. •No parties or loud noise. This is a generally quiet residential neighborhood, and we want to keep it that way. Quiet time is after 10 PM and before 7:30 AM. •Sorry, no pets. •For residential purposes only (home office OK). Guest access entire apartment Other things to note CLEANING AND DISINFECTING BEFORE YOU CHECK IN This apartment undergoes a deep cleaning and disinfection before and after every guest, in compliance with the Airbnb Enhanced Clean program. Over and above those procedures, we add extra disinfecting, using a BioSpray Surface Cleaner and Sanitizer system . You can look up BioSpray, but here’s a quote from their website: “The quick-drying BioSpray D2 removes residual moisture from surfaces and is recommended for use as a sanitizer on food processing equipment, dairy equipment, food utensils, dishes, silverware, glasses, sink tops, countertops, refrigerated storage, and display equipment and other hard nonporous food contact surfaces. Lab calibrated spray-and-shoot technology for more effective coverage, reaching inside even the smallest cracks and crevices, with better results than manual sprayers or wipes.” Also “BioSpray D2 is a combination of isopropyl alcohol and a powerful quaternary ammonium compound.” It is a hospital-grade disinfectant and is “included on EPA list of disinfectants for use against SARS-COV-2 (Search EPA# 73232-1).”
