Room 6 - lovely Queen in The Gearin
Description
We have just reopened again after a period of closure. Our location is the best in Katoomba, opposite the railway station and near all the buses. The space The Gearin is the oldest hotel in Katoomba. It is heritage listed, and was originally built in 1881, the same year as a smallpox epidemic was unfolding in Sydney. Known as the Railway Hotel, it was run as a guest house by a Mrs Gearin. Sometime along the way it was refurbished in the Art Deco style, and features a ballroom, upstairs and downstairs accommodation with single rooms, double rooms and several rooms with ensuites. The Gearin has been neglected over the years, and is the process of refurbishment. Accommodation is upgraded standard with mostly shared bathrooms. A wonderful recent addition, is the coffee shop situated directly downstairs. "On The Soul Side" Expresso Bar occupies the original bar, the longest bar in Katoomba. It is open Monday to Friday 7am to 1pm and Sundays 8am to 1pm Guest access Guests can access their own room and a common room with microwave, tea and coffee making facilities, and balcony view across the railway station to the Carrington and Katoomba township.
