Description

The Piggery is a tranquil, stand-alone wood-cabin in the beautiful Somerset countryside. Ideal for short breaks for those who want somewhere quiet and like to get out and about. Situated on our organic small-holding, it has a kingsize bed, ensuite, a TV, wifi and kitchennette facilities - kettle, microwave, fridge. We're 8 mins from the M5, with Taunton, Glastonbury, Street and Wells a few miles drive. Our village has a pub that serves excellent food and a convenience store 2 miles away. The space The Piggery is a wood cabin reconstructed on the site of an old pig sty, hence the name. We rebuilt it in 2010 as the old building had a tree growing through it! Though of course you are very welcome to stay in, The Piggery is compact and probably best suited to people who like to get out and about; some people might find the bathroom access a little tight. Due to the dangers of the woodburner, non-mobile children are welcome, and those over 10. Please be aware we do not have a cot and space is limited. We offer a discount for stays of a week or more. We have a dog, Midge, who is very friendly though a little excitable. She is not allowed in the Piggery, though may try to convince you otherwise! Sorry, but it means we can't welcome other dogs. We also have chickens and geese, and sometimes sheep or pigs. You are welcome to visit them. The beautiful vale that we’re situated in is called Billicombe and our little hamlet is Tapmoor. We are on the side of the Polden Hills, facing south west towards the Quantock Hills. Glastonbury with its famous Tor is 7 miles away and Wells, the smallest city in England, another 7 miles further on. There are a number of internationally renowned nature reserves close by, including Westhay, Ham Wall and Greylake. We're ideally located for visiting the Starling murmurations in autumn and winter. The site of the last battle on English soil – the Battle of Sedgemoor in 1685 – is a few miles across the Levels at Westonzoyland. King Alfred burned the cakes at Burrowbridge, just off the road to Taunton. The world famous Cheddar Gorge is a short drive across the Somerset levels; the cheese caves are worth a visit on a wet day. The Ring Of Bells in Moorlinch is our nearest pub – a short walk through the village; with other village pubs nearby. Edington has a general store. Guest access You are welcome to enjoy our garden and 3-acre organic smallholding. There are good country walks from The Piggery. We get reasonable mobile reception, but it somewhat depends on your network provider. High speed WiFi is available. Other things to note Please note that, whilst there is a kettle, fridge, microwave and crockery, The Piggery is 'room only' and we don't supply breakfast. There is a small store a couple of miles away that sells provisions, or do bring your own. We provide one parking space in our yard, which is off the road. Some guests prefer to park on the road - please be aware we don't recommend this as it's narrow and farm vehicles need to get through.
