Mother-in-law apartment in our North Community home IDEAL FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS 5 Minutes From Medical Center COVID-19: We are making a special point to disinfect all frequently handled objects such as door and cabinet knobs, refrigerator door handles, etc. The apartment will be vacant the day prior to the 4PM check-in. Fully furnished one bedroom apartment. Fully equipped kitchen, full bath, radiant floor heating in bathroom, washing machine. 1.5 miles to LANL. Served by 3 bus lines. Rent our mother-in-law apartment in our home in North Community area of Los Alamos. Three night minimum. This fully furnished one bedroom apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, full bath with radiant floor heating in bathroom, washing machine (no dryer), wifi, private backyard entrance. Please note: FULL BATH. I inadvertently delete the pictures of the shower and tub. I will post new pictures of the bathroom after our current guest leaves tomorrow. (posted JULY 30 2020). On street parking or park in our driveway. Served by 3 bus lines. To TA-3 at LANL: by car ~5 minutes, by bus 15 minutes, foot by road 30 minutes, foot through canyons 50 minutes. The apartment has two rooms. One room is the kitchen. The other is the living/sleeping area. The apartment is suitable for 1-2 people. We host both short (3 nights) and long term visitors. When a guest arrives the apartment will be supplied with clean linens and towels, a few days worth of coffee, shampoo, toilet paper, soap, dish soap, etc, plus whatever is in the refrigerator. Other than food, a short term guest will have everything they need for the duration of their stay. Recent and ongoing upgrades as of March 29 2017: Lighting: recessed LED's Ceiling fans in both the kitchen and living area. 3 dual port USB Charging outlets Apartment with private entrance and complete kitchen. No amenities are shared except that the apartment is in our home so we are sharing proximity. We try to be quiet and we like quiet guests. Our bedroom is directly above the apartment so smoking is strictly forbidden. Also we go to bed around 9:30PM and can hear loud phone conversations. We generally don't interact much with guests. The majority of our guests are scientists who are visiting Los Alamos National Laboratory and mainly want quiet and privacy which the apartment offers in spades. That being said, we will be happy to take you on the canyon hike to LANL. One of us seems to be slowing down with age and it takes at least 50 minutes to go that way now. Time permitting we can show you other nearby hiking trails as well. The apartment is in the walkout basement of our home. We are usually at home when someone stays in the apartment. Convenient to LANL and "downtown" Los Alamos. Santa Fe is 35-45 minutes by car. There is also a bus. Grocery Stores There is a convenience store north on Diamond Drive at the traffic light with a very basic selection of items (10 minute walk). Smiths Marketplace (Trinity Drive) Large grocery store with a household and clothing section, beer/wine/liquor (but not before noon on Sundays), and a drive through pharmacy. Los Alamos Cooperative Market (past the airport on the way out of town) (open to everyone). The coop specialized in local and organic foods, and they have excellent produce & meat sections. They also have a deli that is popular at lunchtime. Thursday Farmers Market During the warmer months there is a weekly farmers market in the Mesa Public Library parking lot. It’s every Thursday from about 7 am to 12 pm, April through early October. After that there is a once monthly indoor farmer’s market in Fuller Lodge. Restaurants There are a couple of restaurants within a ten minute walk (walk North on Diamond to the light, they are right behind the gas station). Bob’s Bodacious Barbecue Sushi Cafe (closes early as they have limited sushi every night) Papa Murphy’s take n’ bake pizza Film Festival is a DVD rental/coffee shop, and they sell espresso and breakfast burritos as well. There are many other restaurants in Los Alamos as well. For caffeine and chocolate fixes we recommend Film Festival (coffee), Starbucks (Central Ave), and Rose Chocolatier (chocolates and coffee) Rose Chocolatier is next the MDV just off Central Ave. Hiking There is a lot of hiking in Los Alamos. 50 Hikes in Los Alamos - Los Alamos County Close to home, we like to walk up Urban Street until it takes a right hand turn and changes into 48th St. In the vacant lot where the road turns there is a trail which takes you to the Perimeter trail. This trail runs for miles along the perimeter of Los Alamos. It also connects to Pipeline Road (no cars allowed), which you can take all the way to Pajarito Ski Area (10 miles) and points beyond. Both trails are popular for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. Our other favorite hike is to hike or snowshoe up the ski area (a 20 minute drive). Served by 3 bus lines. To TA-3 at LANL: by car 5 minutes, by bus 10, foot by road 25 minutes, foot through canyons 50 minutes. Bus There is a free bus system run by the county called Atomic City Transit. It’s very convenient for getting to the lab, and pretty good for going downtown. All of the buses stop at the transit center next to LANL. The closest stop going to the lab or downtown is at Diamond Dr and Sycamore (5 min walk). The closest stop going away from town (north) is on the other side of Diamond Dr. & Sycamore, or North Rd and Urban St. Routes 4,5,6 all go to Diamond & Sycamore. You can view the routes by googling for Los Alamos Bus System and finding the website or download the app (of course). Rental Cars Rental cars are available at the Los Alamos Airport. We are happy to give you a ride out there, just let us know in advance. The apartment is in our walkout basement and the entrance is in our backyard. Access is via a dirt pathway that is about 40' long that ends in a flight of about 5 stairs. The stairs might not be appropriate for seniors. The apartment is not wheel-chair accessible. We have a cat who lives in the main house. He has been neutered and does not enter the apartment.
