Historic stone house with big garden - 1st floor

Located in the heart of Gythio, the residence is on the 1st floor of a historic 100-year old traditional stone house surrounded by garden of olive, mandarine and orange trees, situated in a 1200 m2 estate. The property, which recently had extended renovation, offers all modern facilities to your family and friends. Living in this house connects you with the stylish and aristocratic past of Gythio since this house was the home of the Mayor in the 1920's. The space The apartment is on the 1st floor of a 2-storey stone house located in a 1300m2 property with a garden full of trees and flowers is at the end of a pedestrian road uphill facing the picturesque Akoumaros hill, the trademark of Gythio. The whole house with wooden roof and was built in the early 20th by Eugene Titkov, a Russian engineer of USSR Army. Titkov was then working at Gythio as constructor of public buildings under the supervision of Ernst Ziller, the famous Saxon architect, who later became a Greek national. Ziller was a major designer of royal and municipal buildings in Athens, Patras and other Greek cities. He also constructed the City Hall, the Courthouse and the Girls' School of Gythio (Parthenagogeio), buildings you should definitely visit. The whole area belonged to the Mayor of Gythio V. Kalkandis, who sold it to the grandfather of the current owner in 1929. The connection road of the property to the centre of the town is still named after the Mayor. During the WWII the house was requisitioned and used as residence of the Italian commander of the artillery unit controlling the cannons situated on the hill. At this position, 150m from the house, you can now see the archaeological site of Acropolis of Gythio. The house was inhabited by the grandfather and the father of the current owner and now is the family's country house. Guest access The guests, besides the house (88m2) and the verandas (50m2) on the 1st floor, are welcome to visit the olive tree garden (500 m2), either to get fresh oranges for their breakfast juice or lemons for their lunch. A great opportunity is also given to our guests to take a Greek style shower under an olive tree at our external "bath" or take a nap at a hammock between olive trees. This could also be a space for children to play (with respect to common quiet hours of course). Any "gardeners" are more than welcome to do some digging, watering or even consulting! Other things to note The 1st floor of the house, where our guests will stay, is a fine example of traditional and bioclimatic construction. The house's peripheral stone walls are 70cm thick, there is an internal height of 4m, there are a lot of internal and external doors and windows, all of which have skylights, so the house is extremely well lit and ventilated. The internal arrangement is cyclic, meaning that the rooms are developped in a radius around its centre -the kitchen-, so no area is lost in connecting corridors. There are three bedrooms, one living/dining room, kitchen and bathroom, all very functional and spacious. There are A/C units in all bedrooms and the living/dining room, and all windows and skylights are equipped with screens. The owners, both civil engineers, made an overall renovation which provides on one hand all modern facilities to the guests, but on the other hand respects the initial layout and the atmosphere of the house. The house is surrounded by wide verandas and traditional balconies, giving unobstructed view to Koumaros Hill. The private road in the garden gives access to the house and provides a spacious parking place and safety to the residents. Registration Details 00002283402
