The Poet's House, charming villa in countryside!

In this authentic eighteenth-century farmhouse you can still breathe echoes of poetry. Come and be inspired... In the house you will find a taste of freedom, simplicity, imperfect beauty: the charm of the boundless horizon, of life without the superfluous, of the lightness of sustainability. The garden is a oasis where you can contemplate the stars. Just outside, the nature of the truest Sicily: where rows of dry stone walls divide solitary carob trees and the gaze runs towards the silent sea. The space CIR 19088009C217415 Poet's House takes its name from the Sicilian poet Vann'Antò who lived there between 1919 and 1945, my great-uncle. An inspiring place to write and paint, to meditate... Poet's House is a refuge - now as then - for those seeking peace, beauty and the charisma of authenticity. Situated on a hill, halfway between the city of Ragusa and the sea, Poet's House is located in the open countryside, surrounded by cultivated fields, centuries-old olive and carob trees. Sicilian beyond measure with a strong identity, generated by the union between History and Landscape. The view extends well beyond the borders of the province of Ragusa: during the day you can see as far as Licata, at night, as far as Malta and Gozo, all lit up! We offer the experience of a stay in the apartment of the manor house of an ancient "masseria" from Ragusa from the eighteenth century. Today the farm animals are no longer there, but the spaces dedicated to them are still perfectly identifiable. Arriving along the little-traveled asphalt road, you will find it as the first of other villas whose buildings are one next to the other. Some are occasionally inhabited, others are in ruins, the last one is trying to turn into an income. During the delicate restoration, a continuous balance was sought, a combination of tradition and avant-garde, elegance and comfort, both for the interiors and for the exteriors. An attempt was made to hide the technology, but don't rack your brains looking for air conditioning, because there isn't any! There are only fans for the summer, because its mighty stone structure and the wooden shade curtains keep the heat away. The large door will welcome you and lead you under stone vaults, full of plants. You can proceed through the planted "baglio" or towards the wide staircase to the apartment or simply consider it as it is: a space where you can dine al fresco. The "baglio" is a "courtyard", completely enclosed by a high wall, for the use of the guest: in part the living rock emerges, in part it is paved, but above all it is full of trees and plants that make it an oasis of relaxation. The poet "Vann'Antò" was not wrong to desire this place: during the many summers that he spent within these walls with his family, he found inspiration for much of his work. "Poet's House" continues to be an extraordinary place over time, where you can let yourself be transported by the slow rhythms of a distant past and, today, also be pampered by the simmering of the hydromassage tub, a further source of relaxation. The apartment, for the exclusive use of guests, consists of three bedrooms: a junior suite (36 m2), a double (24 m2), equipped with full bathrooms and balconies overlooking the surrounding countryside. And a single bedroom (9 m2) nestled in the attic. The living room with fireplace has high ceilings and the floor is the original one from 1700 with a geometric design carved in limestone and pitch. Also in pitch are the floors of the bedrooms, where the furniture is located re-edited next to chinoiserie or modern pieces, for a simple and elegant glamour. In fact, it was very satisfying to decorate the house with shabby and ecological paintings. The low environmental impact, the most ecological products and the recycling/reuse of what was found within these walls were the focus of the project. You will find soap dispensers instead of single doses, or the toilets have double buttons. What you will not see is the phytodepuration carried out on the waste water. Or the highly efficient plinth heating. But if you are more interested in eating well, I will take you to the comfortable kitchen with its large table. It is well equipped: 5 gas burners, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, combined microwave. The kitchen overlooks the greenery below, which hides the access to a private space, we call it "dammuso", (from Arabic it translates as warehouse). In the dammuso there is a hot tub, active in the months from May to September. At the Poet's House you can watch unforgettable sunsets and lose yourself in the vault of the firmament every night. If you want to live in a corner of Sicily from another time, far from the noise, immersed in the chirping countryside, while remaining just a few kilometers from the sea, from the entertainment of the coast, this is the place for you. The house is also a springboard for the rich territory, everything is 30-45 minutes away; a dip in the sea does not take more than a quarter of an hour! Ragusa and the artistic heritage of the Baroque, the locations of the fiction "Montalbano" (Modica, Scicli, Ragusa, Donnalucata), the free golden beaches, castles, prehistoric caves, up to the wine cellars, and what about the extraordinary local cuisine and so much more to realize that, perhaps, you do not have enough time to enjoy everything that awaits you in this land. It would be a real shame! P.S. In case you are moving in more than 5, you can request to rent it together with "Villa le Tortore" (7 p.), a short drive away (10 min). Guest access All the villa and its outdoor spaces are available for guests. Equipments central heating by baseboards, pellet fireplace, washing machine, iron and ironing board, dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, 5 gas stoves, microwave, toaster, thermal carafe, hairdryer; moreover BBQ and tables, benches and chairs for outdoor. Supplies included: - Linen: sheets and towels in sets per person / week, table linen for kitchen; - The end of stay cleaning; - All utilities and facilities of the house (parking, TV, BBQ); - Baby equipment (cot, stroller, high chair, games); - Welcoming service and information about activities and sightsseeing of the area, suggested according to personal interests of our guests. - A small nécessaire in the kitchen like tea, coffee, spices and condiments, kitchen equipment; - Books, games for all ages; - Equipment for beach: umbrella, chairs and toys for the sand. Additional services not included: - Extra cleaning service (min.3 hours each time) - Additional linen service (10€/set); - Mediterranean dinner at home (starting from €25/person; + €10 each bottle of wine; reduced prices for children under 6 years); - Sicilian breakfast at home (15€/person); - Small food shopping delivered to your home upon your request (expense reimbursement). For our guests we organize additional services free of charge, created in collaboration with accredited structures in the area. Guests will pay directly at the facility that manages them. More information will be delivered via message. Other things to note The Villa has an excellent panoramic position. You can see the sea for 180° and is immersed in the most typical Ragusa countryside made up of fields, olive trees and carob trees. The house is part of an eighteenth-century farm, still perfectly legible in its ancient uses today. The hydromassage is located in the old warehouse! In the patio (equipped with armchairs and tables) there is the old cistern carved into the stone, surrounded by green plants. Privacy, comfort, glamor complete the picture.
