Very beautiful, very basic, entire farmhouse.
Description
Beautiful, remote, unique and very very basic. Described as "camping with a roof" and "a digital detox". Its on a working farm with dogs, sheep, amazing views and a fire to gather around. The cottage is for practical, hardy, outdoorsy types with a sense of humour and a love and respect for the countryside. Its a basic place so expect no frills. Its been in the family for years. We have found that you either fall in love with it, or you don't get it. The space The cottage is an isolated stone farm house with stone floors and simple layout. If you're expecting city comfort this is not the place for you. Upstairs there are 2 x bunk beds and 2 decent double beds. No sheets so bring bedding, sleeping bags and pillows. Downstairs there is a very old school kitchen with industrial wood burning stove, a cosy living room with a woodburning fireplace, sofa and dining table, and a bathroom that does the job. Bathroom has a shower and bath tub. There is running hot/cold water, heated from an electric boiler, but water is not drinkable - comes from rain water collection and a nearby spring. Kitchen has plates, glasses, cutlery, pots and pans, fridge, kettle, toaster, mini oven, microwave and electric hob. Recommended that you bring camping style supplies for cooking and eating. Bring bottled water for drinking. No wifi. Guest access The area immediately around the cottage, including the woodshed is ours. Otherwise the cottage is based on a working farm. There is a family living in a converted barn at the end of the road round the hill, and there is another family home halfway up the hill at the main gate. Please respect the neighbours and all private land. Please park on the track that runs behind the cottage. Please do not park in the open space in front of the cottage (where the tractors are turned). Other things to note It is a working sheep farm. The farmer visits every day. The areas right outside the house are for guests to use, near the wood storage and to the side near where you park the car. You MUST take all your waste from your stay. Do not leave any. There are council run waste sites accessibly by car (nearest is in Dolgellau) otherwise you must take all your waste home. Do not be tempted to leave in other peoples bins (we will find out). We do not provide bedding or towels. We recommend sleeping bags for ease of use. The beds have good mattresses. You MUST NOT bring dogs. We do not allow guests to bring dogs as it is a working farm. The farmer keeps his own sheepdogs nearby. Country rules regarding gates being closed if you are out walking. The road up is steep but drivable for any cars.
