Description
This is one of three gites on this property, so if you are travelling single, as a couple, in a family or in a large group - this is the place to be! Set in a spectacular region of chateaux, wine, bike routes, historic, geologic and artistic interest, we have taken pains to renovate the house and adjacent caves into comfortable welcoming spaces, to cuddle up in or take off and explore the region. The space This is our 'Troglogite' - a guest home in a cave! It is a majestic space, with three entrances from the courtyard. The main entrance opens up to a large living space with several alcoves, where we have dining, living, office, den and two day beds that give you an extra sleeping area. There are doors from the exterior also into the kitchen and the bedroom; the bathroom is off the living room. All of the spaces are connected by interior doors too. We provide towels and sheets. Please note that our "Skylark" is built in a series of connected caves - it is not a traditional house. While it remains delightfully cool all summer, and is heated in the winter, there is some work required to control the temperature and humidity - you will have to adjust heaters and dehumidifiers, we will give full instructions for their operation. The kitchen is fully equipped with a full refrigerator, two electric burners, hood and a combined mircrowave/traditional oven. There is a dishwasher in the apartment, the clothes washer and dryer are in a separate room on the property. This courtyard services both the Dove and the Skylark gites, there are tables and chairs and a space for a barbeque grill. Guest access There are two entrances to this property. You can leave your car at the main street level and come up the old staircase (steep!) to the courtyard. You can also come into the courtyard directly from the back street - you may want to bring your bags up that way, then park either at your space in front or our parking area just down the street. This courtyard services both the Dove and the Skylark gites, there are tables and chairs and a space for a barbeque grill. Other things to note The place is beautifully quiet, however there is a train track that passes right behind the houses on the other side of the road. We are a bit removed from that, since the gites are on the courtyards up on the second level, not directly facing the street - and are therefore somewhat shielded. There is no visual connection but you will be aware of the occasional train when it goes by. We have some bicycles that people staying here are welcome to borrow, hopefully functional - maintenance, I'm afraid, sometimes outpaces us. If you are interested in canoeing, there is a rental place right on the Cher, about a ten minute walk from the house, and they also rent bicycles. I’m developing a list of suggestions for places to go, things to do – and of course, restaurants in the ‘hood – and I would encourage you to write any of your own suggestions in the book I keep on site (as well as sending me reviews on this site and my web page!)
