Description

Greenlands Barn is in a lovely quiet spot off the River Tone. From the doorstep you can walk along the river, go further onto the Somerset levels or do a circuit to the local pub in the next village. The barn is light and airy with a large kitchen diner & living room, king size bedroom, spacious bathroom, walled courtyard and private riverbank. There are mountain bikes and a 2-person canoe for use during your stay. Historic towns, countryside or just a rest by the wood-burning stove awaits you. The space The barn is part of an old farm which used to be part of the a system at Ham Lock. Coalharbour across the suspension bridge took in the coal, Ham Mills ground the flour and still has a working waterwheel, Ham Lock cottage controlled the lock and Old Ham Wharf Farm and the two barns were the front-of-shop for those purchasing flour or taking goods through the navigation with barges loaded from the Tone. You can see the remnants of this in the buildings and enjoy the riverside setting and abundant wildlife that has reclaimed the space. Guest access Guests have the barn, an enclosed courtyard garden, a sun patio and the riverbank to enjoy. The courtyard has outdoor seating for four, a huge parasol, a long bench and a really comfy hammock for two. There are two easy chairs on the sun patio which can also be moved down to the riverbank to sit and enjoy the sounds of the fish and watch the kingfishers dart about. The adjoining utility room has a tumble-dryer in addition to the washing machine in the barn and I can provide a clothes airer - if you really want to do laundry! Other things to note Updated 2025 - the mountain bikes have been moved into a new bike store by the side gate. You can take the bikes out through the gate which gives you direct access to the parking area by Coalharbour bridge. Please shoot the top and bottom bolts over on the gate when you return. New amenities for 2024 - L’OR barista coffee machine and a Sage the Smart Oven™ Air Fryer. The smart oven has 10 cooking functions: Toast 6 slices, Crumpet, Grill, Bake, Roast, Warm, Pizza, Airfry, Reheat and Slow Cook. It will particularly help guests in the summer when you don’t want to have the Rayburn on a high heat. Update for 2024 - for returning and new visitors alike - the internet speeds have improved! FTTP has arrived in the village and the barn now has download minimum of 72Mbps and upload of 67Mbps. As you’re on a riverbank I need to warn you about levels. There are steps up to the riverbank and then a slope down to the lower bank near the water. It’s not for those who are unsteady on their feet at all. This is the main reason I’ve not set the barn up for children, it’s really not suitable. NEW FOR 2023 - canoe launch, riverbank deck and rustic steps to get from the upper to lower river bank. It’s still wild planted, but it’s now much easier to get out on the canoe or soak up the evening sun. UPDATE FOR 2024 - New fire safety guidance for small holiday lets came into effect in October 2023. The barn has been updated with: thumb turn locks on the front and rear doors; new multi-sensor smoke, heat and carbon monoxide sensors in the kitchen and hallway; additional smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the bedroom; an emergency torch/night light to show escape routes; a new all-materials fire extinguisher; a fire blanket in the kitchen; PAT testing and a EICR report. The Rayburn was serviced in December 2023 and the chimney swept in early 2023 (there have been only a handful of fires in it this year).
